saw the final episode last night. i won't post any spoilers, but i will say a lot of speculation comes true… but it's an hour and a half long, so there was a bit more room for tying up loose ends.

top 5 characters:

bubbles
omar
boadie
stringer
sabotka (don't front on the dock workers 8) )

anyone else think that the kid that plays michael seems to have what it takes to really blow up? his screen presence was enough to stand up to and even overshadow a lot of the older actors on that show...

Personally -- i think the show isnt "over". They could take a couple of years off and have Michael as "Barksdale" or "Marlo" -- then create a completely different storyline.

i'm hoping that happens.

i know the actors are pushing for a movie prequel or sequel type thing, but the way it ended i'm pretty sure the show is over. you'll see what i mean when you see it.

Check 'The Corner' mini series if you can, it's excellent. As for the future:

Simon is also producing and writing an adaptation of Generation Kill for HBO with Ed Burns. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/con ... TheWireHBO

'which chronicles the first month of the American-led 2003 Iraq invasion through the eyes of young Marine whose unit was part of the first wave of the U.S. military assault on Baghdad.'

Simon has written a teleplay about bluesman Muddy Waters that has not been produced. He has mentioned plans to write another book; potentially about the rise of drug use in the 1950s and 1970s. Simon continues to work as a freelance journalist and author, writing for The Washington Post, The New Republic, and Details magazine.

Simon is collaborating with Eric Overmyer again on a project about musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans. Overmyer lives part-time in New Orleans and Simon believes his experience will be valuable in navigating the "ornate oral tradition" of the city's stories. The show will focus on a working class neighborhood and will be smaller in scope than The Wire. HBO have commissioned a pilot episode of the series but it has not received a "green-light".

I feel like a cross between a child on christmas morning and a man armed with a spoon in the trenches about to go over the top

That's great news. I've read that book....it's ok. Nothing all that fantastic.

I guess it also explains why that one cop in the Wire ( I forget his name...the tall guy that intimidated McNulty into giving him a car for the weekend), was reading a copy of "Generation Kill" in one of the earlier episodes.

Heh, I only remember that obscure detail b/c i recognized the book cover.
