Beef is inevitable in ANY large group, much less one that interacts mostly through the internet. Since you can't hear someone's tone of voice, see their body language etc. misunderstandings are more likely to happen. Even worse, this lack of info dehumanizes the interactions to the point that nobody is likely to change their mind because of them. I'm not entirely sure there's an all-encompassing solution to this, but it does help for people as individuals to take a step back and try to look at things objectively.
