Decent Production Headphones
easy all, does anyone know of some decent headphones that have a good flat resoponce and handle bass nicely into lower freQs without colouring the sound? I'm talking about in the studio so they don't need to be closed back, have different headphones for djing, im looking for a nice sound without colouring (i guess what most people are after
) I work mostly with monitors, but sometimes because of the hours i work at i can't always be loud
cheers

Biased because these are the first headfones i've ever loved... Massive bass response, extremely loud if you want them to be. Noise cancelling so you can't hear the wifey calling you back to bed at 3:00am..
Only problems with em I guess are they are a bit tight so if you have a giant fat head I wouldn't reccomend em. I've heard that they snap across the top but mine are solid as and they are kept only in the studio... Can get a little fatigued after a long while, as you will with any headfone
EDIT: Oh yeah, it's the Sennheiser 280 HD

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
Agreed... I use a set of ultrasones for production, and playing out. I can't compare them to others, because I haven't owned any other high end phones. But they seem great to me.abstractsound wrote:anything by ultrasone.
I chose them because I was told they are the next best thing if you can't use monitors.

But expensive.
I bought AKG K271 Studio headphones, sounds good. Nuances which I didn't hear with my crappy Technics RP-F29 are now very well to catch.

They are the best things I have ever bought hands down. The bass response is incredible.. and they are really comfortable.

umm, sorry bit of a thread hijack here but oh well, thought this would be a good place to ask.
my grandad worked as a translator/broadcaster on the BBC foreign service radio for most of his life, when he passed away 2 years ago my grandma found a pair of SENHEISER HD 480II i use them at the moment seein as the moniters i have are wanky hi-fi speakers that came with a sharp stereo years ago. i just wondered if they are actually decent? they sound alrite to me just a bit muddy at lower frequency and lacking a bit of high end.
i also have a pair of Sony noise cancelling in-ear headphones (MDR-NC22) they are VERY heavy on the low end but just wondered what peoples opinions were on in ear headphones for production?
cheers

i wouldnt rely solely on inear. you ear recieves the sound in a bit of a different way than from regular headphones or monitors. its always good to have plenty of different options to hear your work on though. the more systems your tunes sound good on the more likely your mixes will translate over any system
