We never hear actual silence, there's always background noise of some sort even if you think you can't hear it... it's there.

It would require a tank with no air, breathing apparatus and yerself.

I bet, with enough time spent in there, your brain would start making it's own sounds just so it's not bored... like how if you stare at the floor in the doctor's waiting room it warps... or is that just me?
Wouldn't the breathing apparatus make noise?

Yes. If there's ever even minimal silence with low low low background noise, your mind will make shit up, like when you're home alone and you think that people are breakin in.

Silence is not, by scientific definition, sound, but Eastern thought holds that existence and nonexistence create, and are defined by each other. We have an anechoic chamber in college that I'm maaaad to get into.... Silence is important in a tune, and the cool thing for me is is that no two listeners will ever hear the silent bit in the same way.

Did you read about it about four posts ago, by any chance?

Or black as a colour.

Good luck painting without black, good luck making music without silence.
weeeell actually it's far easier to paint without black, it tends to flatten the image
u wanna use something close to black that's actually just really dark blue or purple...

not really that applicable to music perhaps because you're never going to listen to a tune in a place that has a dead silence...

Makes me chuckle to see Loefah talking about silence when most of his tunes have about -9db RMS

i don't know about it being a sound, but i know i've paid enough for silence when its in the HUGE run out grooves on a lot of records.
thief in the night, just one example, has just as much silence on the record as music.

it might not be a sound, or music, but people still sell it, and we can still pay for it.

= timing

the placement of silences = the placement of sound (silence, and sound where there isnt silence)

pretty logical all of this, if you ask me

yep, anyone else hear hard house on speed comedowns?
WHO'S PLAYING THAT SHIT MUSIC?!?!?!
oh its in my head, no worries
WHY'S MY HEAD TAKING THE PISS OUT OF ITSELF?!?!?!

seriously, i'd have thought MY brain would imagine up music to hear that it knows I like, rather than hard house, which it KNOWS i hate.

the thing that got me in to dubstep was the breaks in the sound - its like in some tunes the silence kind of provides the rythm

True silence is in a vacum

As long as there's air - theres a good chance of sound.

I've been lucky enough to experience being as close to silence as possible in a purpose built anechoic chamber, but even then you hear the blood running through your body!

As for music, was it not once said by a famous musician (can't remember who) that the notes you don't play are almost as important as the ones you do!
It moves you!
