and definitely

requiem for a dream

but all the others = meh (not seen irreversible though).

my picks:

kolobos - head hitting cystern scene
zombi 2 - wooden spike through the eye
exorcist - that scene
passion of the christ - first flogging scene (i think).
saw 2 - pit of needles
tetsuo - metal pipe shoved into maggot ridden leg wound :|

Ah, it was Audition I didn't recognise.

Visitor Q has to be about the wrongest, funniest film I've seen.

i find this too. implied violence is often far more horrific than actual violence

the teeth pulling scene in oldboy is horrific. and you don't see any teeth getting pulled.

or the autopsy scene in mr vengeance where you just see the dad's face

Don't you mean this the other way round?
my mate bought salo on dvd, watched it then took it back to hmv telling them he didn't want a film like that in his house.

i haven't seen it.
Having read a few excerpts from the de Sade original, I doubt I'm going to read the book, and I hear the film is extremely fucked up. I'm still tempted to on a darkside tip but I may well regret it. Shit is like Pandora's box, once it's open...
Hmm....

Tho I just read American Psycho and I swear it affected my mood and personality whilst reading it... I find movies less able to do that because it's on then its off, reading uses your own imagination so much.. Could be a bit dangerous only watching and reading completely sick material...

Probably best to watch this film then wash it off with Bambi / H.R Puffnstuff

I've read American Psycho 3 times, first time thought it was a bit verbose, monotonous and graphically violent, 2nd and 3rd time brought out the genius of the satire and the attack on the self-righteous, narcissistic vacuum that is Patrick Bateman and in turn the bullshit of our consumer culture.

I think de Sade was on the same tip having been locked up for most of his life for embarrassing hypocritical aristocratic inlaws, and loathing the corruption of the upper classes, the church and the ruling elite as a whole.

Think he had to rewrite the entire thing as the first copy was lost or confiscated by his gaolers, so I should at least make the effort to read it :D
Hmm....

Was Pasolini murdered because of Salo? I thought it had something to do with him being a communist. But then again I'm sure Salo must have twisted some panties.

Cant see the ol' wikipedia as I am in China so I may be totally off the mark here.
