I used to be a metalhead. Metallica, Cradle of Filth, System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Demon Hunter - used to be a real mosher in the pit at Download/DestructionFest.

I used to like dance music but always craved a bit of a darker element to the scene, something a bit edgier and more twisted. Some of the elements of metal, heavy rock etc. When I discovered dubstep, darker soundscapes and electronica, it felt like I'd found what I was looking for in electronic music.

Plus there are dubstep artists like Pinch/Distance with definite metal influences in their sound. So the two genres are linked so it's not that surprising metalheads get into dubstep!

Mastodon!

Leviathan is an absolutely killer album. Think of the heaviest heavy metal being played by unbelievably talented musicians. The drummer is like a heavy metal Stewart Copeland.

Seriously, if you haven't listened to this album, go check it out right now.

shit yeah, i love the noisecore-y stuff, massive Drowningman follower too but not many folks have heard of them. i love Relapse Records stuff - old Burnt By The Sun is immense. also a band called Luddite Clone, they're great too. the jaggier the better really :)

I'm more involved in metal production than dubstep to be honest... currently working on an album for an up and coming aussie metalcore band and play bass in these:

There's some decent stuff in this thread but A LOT of utter bollocks.

I love Metal myself. Mostly Black Metal but I love good Thrash and Death Metal (technical or brutal, it's aaaaall good); lots of Doom too. I like Post-Metal also even though it's technically not Metal.

Some favourites are:

Deathspell Omega, Paysage D'Hiver, Kayo Dot, maudlin of the Well, Regnum, Leviathan/Lurker Of Chalice, Darkestrah, Alcest (EP only), Mortifera, Peste Noire blah blah.

If anyone wants any recommendations for some good Metal shout me up and I'll provide.
