check out whats available straight from the top interface, let alone what is in the menus!
PROS:
in attempting to make a 'digital analog modelling' synth they have possibly created the dirtiest most disgusting lead/bass synth module ever! capable of huge wobble basses! unbelievable control available directly from the 19 knob interface!!! then when its plugged into a computer (windows xp only unfortunately, which is why i ended up selling mine, as i upgraded to vista) you have access to EVEN MORE features... there is nothing as action packed in its price range!!! no onboard keyboard (who needs to play a fricken keyboard when its being sequenced by the computer? its just a waste of space). oh and it is cheap cheap cheap these days!
CONS:
no onboard keyboard. its internal sequencer is only 16 step so this is pretty limiting for making long drawn out dubstep basslines/melodies and the internal drum sounds are pretty standard and basic/cheesy. Can only apply the internal effects across both drums AND synth, not individually which is pretty crap in general.

Synths
Right synth advice!
I have owned quite a few different synths over the years, my current selection is
Nord Lead 3 - An absolute monster, this bad bwoy is great for dirty ripping sounds, the filter on it is a little weak IMHO as its digital but the modulation possibilities are outstanding. It has no effects so you spend more time getting the sound itself right. I have found that most VSTi just lather themselves with sheeeet FX to try and get a good sound, take the FX away and listen to the Oscillators on there own!
Virus Ti - This is kind of similar to the Nord but with more moudlation possiblities n FX, I'm still trying to get my head around it. As with the Nord the filter is a little on the weak side.
Sequential Circuits Pro One - A truly outstanding pure analog synth. This puppy has eaten away hours of my life, my missus hates this one! 2 Osc good modulation wicked filter!
SH101 - The oldskool bassline synth, wobble wobble wobble! Great for bass n acid but thats about it.
Roland System 100 model 101 - My first ever analog synth. I love this. So simple, single Osc, LFO, etc, some semi modular patching capabilites and the same filter chip as the TB303, sorry that should be the other way around. The TB303 has the same filterchip as this. Its much older than a 303!
Other great synths, Waldorf Pulse, pure analog filth! Korg MS10 or 20 analog heaven!
There is a whole host of great new synths coming out, Propeht 08 is outstanding and the new Nord Wave, fuc3 I'm drooling someone stop me, lol.
Fundamentally it aint what you got its what you do with it that counts, well thats what I've tellin my missus for years!! Hahaha
