I've never heard anyone complain about NZ beer, weed or music, except for ozzy's. That's more out of jealousy though, as it is a known fact that they cant brew a decent beer, grow decent weed or make decent tunes. Their women though are much more accomodating and their men are generally better at sports.
Haha sounds like Canada VS USepithet wrote:I've never heard anyone complain about NZ beer, weed or music, except for ozzy's. I get that out of watching Flight of the Conchords, the whole NZ VS AUS.

once again this topic is gay and totally subjective.
uk grime and US hiphop are equivalent counterparts . its urban music. sometimes its gangster sometimes it not . theres absolutely nothing to be gained from trying to figure out which one is "better"
total waste thread if you ask me
im really disappointed in all the latent anti-americanism too, specially from people who've only visited
thats why you'll notice im not making blanket assumptions about the UK. cuz ive never been there. and that would be rude of me

Well, we can only answer as individuals, not for the entire country. Also, like Two Oh One mentioned, only a small percent of the American population cares about electronic music (the rest call everything electronic TECHNO). That small percent, is generally around towns with a big nightlife (Miami, LA, Chicago, NY, Vegas). Travel to some city in bumfuck and they haven't even heard this stuff before. Miami Beach, where I live (and where the WMC is going on now), probably has the highest percent of people I've seen in the US that like electronic music ... but Miami Beach is a pretty small area. I mean, South Beach is like 20 blocks or whatever.mech84 wrote:okay, so my first question was a bit![]()
but then i did ask "what does the US think of the UK scene, with stuff like dubstep, grime, bassline ect... and how does the US compare?"
so, americans what do you think?
Now, I've only been to the UK maybe a dozen times. I had a great time, but haven't spent enough time there to really compare scenes. I can tell you about ours, but, I can't compare them.
As far as the music I hear from both countries, they are about the same: A whole lot of garbage, a few winners.

sigh...KIRK wrote:Alrite it might be a bit faster but a massive majority of it is identical to 4x4 or speedgarage, all the chopped up vocals, the bassline melodys.thc wrote:Bassline is short for Bassline House. It is not Garage. Listen to the beat. It's clearly a House beat, not a Garage beat. It's not even 4x4 Garage. Sure there is lots of influence from Garage, but it is not Garage. Its bloody garage.
They are just tryin to remarket garage with a new name so everyone thinks WOW another new genre.
if you cant tell the difference between a house beat and a garage beat, there is something wrong with you. you just sound like yet another naysayer that hasnt actually listened to the music you're dissing.

Well, considering that British rock bands of the 60's were infatuated by 50's American rock and roll, which was born out of American blues and jazz music(to a certain extent),the fact that a Jamaican came to America with his soundsystem and created hip hop in the 70's,the early electronic sounds of disco,Chicago House,Detroit Techno, and NY Garage in the 80's,not to mention that punk was directly influenced by the MC5 and Iggy And The Stooges from way back in '69,The Ramones and the No Wave scene in the mid 70's to early 80's - I'd say that there has been a relatively fair exchange of ideals between the UK and US.I don't think either has any reason in the world to compare the two.Creativity can come from anywhere.I have heard Russian goth that makes the current American goth sound like children's church hymns.I personally thinkAshley wrote:The Beatles, David Bowie (and Punk as a whole), Dubstep, Grime, Bassline - what hasnt the UK provided musically?
The Chills and Jean-Paul Sartre Experience were two of the greatest pop bands of all time and put them up there with The Beatles and The Cure. And I think the 2step out of Romania is on par with the UK producers, but on a whole different level entirely, just as UK vs. US dubstep is.
We all take notes from each other, and it's all subjective to a person whether it's good or not.
Age old question.Wasteman thread.Ain't no reason for anyone to hate, seen?
