Just in case anybody cares -
these aren't necessarily wide open/free to use how you like: the Creative Commons BY license terms state-
"You are free:
~to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
~to Remix — to adapt the work
Under the following conditions:
~Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page.
Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
Nothing in this license impairs or restricts the author's moral rights. "
Whatever the feck that last part means about 'author's moral rights'...

i'm sure there's shit like this written about all the thousands of records people sample, it didn't stop premier or pete rock.
had a mess about with some of these samples last night, some great harpsichord, hand drums and double bass samples.
True that - and for the most part, many of the tunes made with uncleared samples don't have to worry. If, however, the song happens to blow up huge (as has also been known to happen by fluke) then expect the guys who made these samples to come knocking with outstretched hands...£10 Bag wrote:pshhhh, does anyone really pay attention to this though?

...and Pete Rock & Premier also have seriously high powered lawyers to handle this stuff for them.
But the Creative Commons license is cool because they're not asking for royalties or a fee up front ot anything, just acknowledgement if you release a track using the sound. Shouldn't stop anyone from using these sounds at all. Rather, just wanna make sure nobody has to pay a rasclot thief lawyer.

They're the different sample rates provided.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_rate"Each of the 6500+ samples is 16-bit, WAV, Mono, normalized to -3dB, and provided at 3 sample rates - 44.1K, 22.5K and 16K. "
