Got some today and they sound brilliant. However they leak loads of noise, i dont think i good use them on a n even slightly busy train to listen to my ipod which i kinda wanted to do as well as mix with them. They are fuckin well noisy! I appreciate that that isnt thier chief role, but still. Anyone else find this?Twisted Beatz wrote:

BeyerDynamic DT150 are great for producing in. The frequency responce starts at 5Hz, nuff said. Its like a nightclub in your head.
Very good for testing bass levels late at night. Or if you dont have a sub.

all about the K240s!! They sound awesome, they're super comfy, and all the gold makes them perfect for out-of-studio use, too -- like on pimpish subway rides through yr local getto. Got mine for €50 on evilBay. No substitute for a proper monitor system but well worth the money...

for something really cheap but still very decent, I can vouch for the Audio Technica ATH-M30's:

I found mine for 50 US... so that's like 26 UK.
I have a pair of the HD 280's also, and of course they are somewhat better, but for the price these actually hold their own pretty well.

alright...i specifically searched for this kind of thread because i’m most definitely in need for a new pair of headphones and as i'm mainly producing dubstep sounds nowadays (aren't we all, eh?:)) then bass response is a very important criteria among others...
after reading those 4 pages i have come to the understanding that:
for DJing the best choice is HD25's (gotta agree with that)
for mixdowns, don't try to jump over your shadow with getting the perfect mix using (only) headphones, studio monitor speakers are probably the only way to go (totally another topic which i plan to investigate later)
for producing then would you absolutely recommend the AKG K240?
let's say that for me £100 is not a limit.. but to keep things reasonable, lets double that and assume £200 is my limit.. what then?
I see this purchase as a major investment, and a difficult one since where i live, I don't have as dedicated music gear shops around here, where i can listen to different models of headphones by different makers to give them a trial run so i could choose what are more comfy and which ones' sound i prefer more. I believe that good headphones are good headphones, and fucking good headphones are fucking good headphones, so what i'm going for is to get a pair of those fucking good headphones! even if at first i don't like the sound they give me, i think it's a matter of getting used to the headphones and learning how to take advantage of what frequencies they are able to generate.. so lets give this thread another go and please give me reasoned and argumented recommendations/comments!
cheers.
