yea def agree.
When I listen to music now I listen to the fade in & fade out, drum loops, tempo...etc. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time :S
Once on a heavy dose off acid, I could see all the music being decoded in front of me into all the individual loops with the fades and envelopes. I could literally see the dubstep pattern before my eyes making a complex warping thread.

I don't think it's a bad thing though, infact you appreciate tunes more for how well they're put together as well as how catchy and interesting they are which makes everyone else like them. I constantly find myself listening to a tune I really like and trying to work out what elements are involved to make it what it is, and then getting back to the pc and thinking 'I gots to try me some o that!'. I think it definately helps the learning process to see how the best producers out there are doing things.
And yeah when you try and explain to normal people what tiny melodic or rythmic aspect of a tune you find so clever they'll usually think you're mental.
I'm a gig photographer too and it's kind of the same deal, I can't just go to a concert now without thinking about shitty lighting and what would make a good shot, etc, it's pretty annoying. It's definately made gigs too 'real' to enjoy now as much as I used to.
that's exactly the same for me. i try to listen to as much music as possible that i would never produce, ie. funk, reggae, jazz and soul. i can enjoy it without seeing fruity loops in my head thinking, 'yer thats that bit, and ahh that's how id do it'. its all good though.aike wrote:I find now, I listen to stuff and know how its done and get bored real quick whereas before I started to produce i would have been happy just to listen to it.
Other music has to be really interesting or contain stuff that i dont know how to do now, shame really.
