Well, it stands for de-militarized zone, and abbreviating it to DMZ is a US ting. And the UK doesn't do DMZs to the same extent the US does (Gibraltar vs Korea/Vietnam)....

There are DMZs all around the globe though, Cyprus for instance. And in Germany in the past, so it isn't specifically American.

That said there is no reason why somebody in Cyprus should say zee over zed. American english has become very dominant around the world.

i think technically we (canadians) are supposed to say "Zed"...Im acustom to saying "zee" cus I work for an american company...therefor dealing with americans all day... but I allways say DM"ZEE" cus ZEE rhymes with "DEE"
