Benga in the new Future Music (UK edition)

Post by t.a.a » Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:56 am

long time lurker (some of the tips on here are a help). thought I'd finally sign up cos I have something to post

noticed in the newsagent the new issue of Future Music and was surprised to see Benga on the cover

there's a decent interview inside but best of all is the DVD where they go to his yard (bedroom) and watch him bang out a track!

turns out he uses FL Studio for drums (though it seems like it's version 4...crack perhaps lol? he might not just wanna upgrade) and an old version of Logic for arrangement. they go through 'pleasure' as an example and the 'we want your soul' track for a workflow talk etc

I don't work for whatever company put out the mag but just thought I'd let you guys know as I know he is looked up to (and rightfully so). his mixdowns and drums are so on point

anyway later

using old version of software is actually a good tips !

basically all the good fonction are in fl studio 5 and the newer version require a powerfull pc... and if you have a better pc you could still use bigger project

I don't say it's no use to have the newer version but most of the time i think it useless
(personally i use renoise which is basic but powerfull and don't use much ressource  )

yeah it is

he gives some good tips, talk about what synths he uses, guides the viewer through two tracks plus...it's a bit unrelated but there's the same video interview thing with Joey Negro and his engineer which is hilarious and informative in equal amounts

email the ppl if the DVD doesn't work (address is on the DVD). either that or return to the newsagents

so true - it's really not and in fact you should be able to create a new track quicker unless updates have made your current workflow obsolete

re: FL Studio - the updates do seem to have improved workflow plus the audio engine seems to have been improved aswell. the current SynthMaker application inclusion is monstrous. I could only imagine what Benga and Skream could do with something like that...

I wonder if painters argue about "what is the best brand of canvas to use"

it's all about what you do with it the tools you have

i seriously recommend episode 15 from series 6 of south park. it's not the one with that quote but it's equally funny. chef's parents FTW

@AdDICT: if you would like you can post me the DVD that you cannot play and I can upload to share with everyone.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
