shallow unkind people who are arrogant and obsessed with their image..

You should see my little cousins..they can't read, but they are just straight runnin' shit through their cell phones..
You know this is the same thing people said in the 80's.

It's the same thing in every generation. i wish those damn kids would get off my lawn!

I never heard any sentiment like that in the 80's, but then again, my older cousins had me locked out of the Pink Floyd room..I was left alone in the front room with the pool table.

They had snakes and blacklights in there..I could see it glowing through the cracks in the door frame.

sounds like...(ha! I'm trippin' on the past!!)

truth is coca cola is borderline poisonous. it rots your teeth, damages stomach lining, causes diabetes, and is highly addictive.

if weren't for the market penetration of their advertising schemes, people would not be so readily consuming it in mass quantities as if it were the only thing goin.

this is why artists talk about art. this is why when you go to artschool they spend 4 years teaching you how to talk about art.

the meaning is everything.

I drank Coca Cola before and my stomach is not damaged my teeth are not rotten and I do not have an addiction to it and I no longer drink it.

Besides- Coca Cola is a substance and music is not.

So you compare Run DMC, Beastie Boys, and New Order
to who?

I could go on for days naming barely second rate artists...

..and when I say "manufactured" I am refering to their success - it isn't earned but rather manufactured by a corporate marketing machine..

substance has got nothing to do with anything. i'm talking about influence.

look at the influence on the collective consciousness coca cola has had.

look at the way everything influences everything. just because you don't have rotten teeth doesn't mean their intent is not in your best interests nor does it mean its not abundantly effective.

what about yvan eht nioj
surely you can see how some art is inherently bad. everything is imbued with purpose, and some purposes are bad or at least not remotely worthwhile.

oh- so the truth comes out ! You one of those art people. <jokes>

you know i am just messing with you parson. I see your point about influence, advertising and propaganda in relationship to what becomes popular. I just don't think it has as much power as you ascribe to it and that a lot of people genuinely like pop music and culture - despite our efforts to dismantle the dominant paradigm of our age.

dude thats ALL THE POWER. thats what is shaping and has shaped popular consciousness to its present absurd state.

its all about mass communications. television, radio, movies, etc. its all coming from a single media conglomerate. its a singular false vision of the world being projected as reality.

I like this discussion by the way -

Don't blow it up by saying it's "sooo clever"...and flash pussy.

NO! NO! NO! Man- For one who has the book of thelema's starting sentence as his sig you should understand this bro. Our will means a lot. We still have a great degree of freedom in using it- as we wish. I do not buy into the belief that those who control the mass media have ALL the power. It just isn't so. If it was, I think-- we would not be having this conversation.

you can't dismiss the most powerful force on earth because you think you're immune to it. that doesn't make it stop happening.

I think you are underestimating the power of each human's desire to just have pleasure without reasoning about it.

that people really do like pop music -- even if there was no advertising or marketing to support it.

That people like "crap" or that "crap" becomes popular sometimes. For instance -2 girls and a cup
