something tangentially related which i've been thinking about for a while:
i'm curious about music which is influenced by garage and techno, yet seemingly skips dubstep.
i mean, obviously it's difficult to remove dubstep as a factor but what if dubstep hadn't developed in this way.
i'm interested in removing it.
music which is influenced directly by both techno and garage: techno garage.
which producers are closest to this sound?
is there an argument for saying that a lot of this so called 'dubstep' is actuallly just techno garage?
would be curious to get the opinions of a few of the producers mentioned and posting in this thread.
possibly worth a new thread but there's loads of minimal / dubstep / techno type threads already.

pretty much these are the terms we're using for the next dubkraft plate scheduled, just the dubstep element is a tiny bit more present than that

I think people like horsepower productions had that sort of aesthetic a bit. I like to call it broken techno as well. especially that mix 2562 did of losing marbles
another person that is making this sort of techno garage right now is jus wan.

I find this really wierd cause dubstep was originally techno and garage if you listen to Horsepower (although there seems to be a growing trend with folks to consider them as something other than dubstep). Wasn't there a Hatcha interview from way back where the dub came from the snare hitting in a place more akin with dub reggae and the step was the garage beat. Basic Channel were clearly an early influence.boomnoise wrote:something tangentially related which i've been thinking about for a while:

I just think of it as garage to be honest, and let's face it electronic music is all techno somewhere down the line.
Hmm....

I would like to hear more in this vein. Clearly, there are yet some producers going in that direction, most of them we're yet mentioned, but it's hardly enough. I want more.boomnoise wrote:music which is influenced directly by both techno and garage: techno garage.

I get the impression there are quite a few peeps coming from different directions - some more garage, some more techno and varying shades of both. A lot of the ground has already been covered - but there are some spaces worth exploring. Also - peeps getting tired of the formula dubstep sound. I think the goalposts were moved around 2003 - dubstep kinda abandoned the garage territory. I can only think of some kode 9 or perhaps some early Random Trio that referenced the whole Horsepower legacy AT THAT TIME. Or something like that -boomnoise wrote:something tangentially related which i've been thinking about for a while:

I do believe - maybe I'm wrong - that garage had to resign from the cabinet. He was in disgrace - caught shagging the secretary doing a load of nose-up. Now the party have decided his career can be relaunched. So he's been moved from the backbenches once again - interesting to see if he'll make prime minister
