Dubstep is just one genre of music out of many that I listen to. So the not-so-good dubstep tracks don't bother me that much because I have enough other music to listen to.

People have got to remember that in every genre there is some original music and some that is rehashed and uninspiring. It's not just dubstep that suffers from this, any genre of music that has been around for this long will have that. If the scene keeps coming out with new stuff rather than becoming safe and formulaic it will grow.

We've got to not be afraid to be critical of the music dubstep producers are making, not just saying it's great because it's 'dubstep', because then they will be able to up their game.

I originally got into dubstep because I was hearing about it but didn't know what it was. Also the fact that hardly anyone else knew what it was intrigued me. I like to have a good knowledge of any genre which is why I joined this forum.

It is great on here when people talk and share about the music they're passionate about, whether it's dubstep or not, I've had conversations about metal or grime. Also meeting people off here at dubstep nights means I get to pick their brains and gauge more opinions about the genre than just those of my mates.

I also come on here to find out about nights that are coming up, that don't always turn out to be dubstep nights as many others are advertised on here.

So it's not completely useless... SNH? If I see something that interests me I comment cos that's just what I'm like.

I like intelligent comment about music not just 'this track's good' or 'this is happening' so perhaps some more of that?

oh trust i worry about that too, and i LOVE the techno/dubstep grey area. but then again, i like crazy mashup shit like dj c too. gotta keep the funz!!!!

i agree also... the "deep roller" thing was nice for about 5 minutes until 1000 tunes cropped up with the same syncopated kick pattern...

i try not to think in terms of genres i guess

ive actually been pretty much consistently finding music i like for the last few years...it never dries up..you just need to look really

when i first got into D i found a load of it boring tbh...

now i suppose there are a lot of clones....i love people like jakes, TRG, blackmass plastics, ital tek atm though

theres loads coming out as well from the big names thats wicked....on first listen kode9s - konfusion could be his best

skream doesnt impress me as much as he once did but im sure hell pull something out of nowhere

I think I like about 10% of the stuff that gets released, but that's pretty much as good as it gets with any genre.

When Kode9 and Mala leave, that's when you should start worrying.

It appears kode 9 has left. He was never into the D as such, more his own brand of hyperdub and musical viruses. Seems more exposure to the most virulent strand builds up an immunity to not only it but the hybrid mutant strands. And the drugs don't work.

But on a more serious note, I've noticed that a lot of dubstep just doesn't interest me. The first dubstep track I heard was cockney thug, I think. I was amazed. Then I heard all of Caspa and Rusko's song, and decided I wasn't that impressed. First time I heard burial, I thought "Wtf? This is shitty house/garage, why are people impressed?" I listened a second time, and I was floored. But lately I've noticed that I have hardly listened to any dubstep, mostly experimental hip-hop, and the only dubstep radio shows I've really religiously listened to were the Plastician show on Rinse.fm and DJ Crises' post-FWD show on friday nights on rinse.fm. I haven't really touched many other dubstep things lately, as the scene has become a stagnant pile of crap.

Also, I get my jollies from the SNH, and from trolling it.

There is nothing quite like the SNH. Many threads that have had me in hysterics. Pure class.
I'll be happy as long as Hyperdub keeps releasing, theres lots of little undercurrents going on that keep things vital, but i think homogenity(?) is pretty much inevitable for any sound.

And yeah not listening to -d- all the time helps a lot.

Yeah there is a lot of uninspiring nonce-sense out. I hope the likes of vex'd (there is a rumour they have split) will totally revitalise it. If you look at the overall output of 'dubstep' releases, there are still the same number (if not more) of producers/djs who do make interesting stuff, that remind me of why I first started listening, e.g Geiom/Pinch/Cyrus/Distance/Mala/D1 etc. However, the good releases are watered down by the bad, so it seems there is less when in fact there is still the same amount of good stuff. I think upcoming producers who make flat, boring lifeless junk need to search deeper and draw on different sources...that or make music for CITV, cos the melodic and rythmic content is suitable for a toddler.

Im sure if it was a case of banger after banger released it would become alot more tedius and boring, i like the fact it calms down a bit now and again, almost feels like that one huge tune is on the brink of being dropped for the first time.

i think when i first started listening to dubstep, every tune sounded really fresh and it was pretty hard to buy everything i wanted before it sold out or dissappeared, in around 2006 i guess. Now ive got every new release im fussed about, and i barely buy any records at the moment. Been liking the kind of weird electronica side of things with darkstar and zombie though...ive pretty much completly stopped buying half step tunes, so that leaves me with not much to buy anymore.

i dont really listen to radio anymore either, with the exception of blackdowns show which is amazing and i havent been to a rave in like a month, so yea i guess im not as into it as i was for a while.

All I, voluntarily, listen to is tapes from 2005/6/7 Garage Pressure FBi radio shows. Over and over, like albums. When wobbling and rolling were fresh.

Dubstep is turning all DNBy nowadays. There's a split between the over the top comedy pill munching jump up and the deeper stuff (which is increasingly sacrificing raw immediacy and power for the sake of atmospherics) and a similar audience split i.e. the internet purists hate the comedy stuff but the majority of people at dubstep nights absolutely love it. I can see it coming now- everyone who likes deep stuff gets branded a nerd or something and everyone who likes the novelty stuff gets branded a moron.

There isn't QUITE this split at the moment but seeing that there's a remix of a TC tune coming out soon has brought visions of dubstep becoming more and more like DNB...

I love a lot of the music coming out of dubstep at the moment, there are some great up and coming producers out there but listening to Youngsta on Rinse in late 2005 it just seems to me that there was a real purity and excitement about it in those days, and real quality control.

I'm beginning to get a bit sick of it all, particularly with constantly moaning and worrying about it.

Anyway I'm going to try not to end up going to nothing but dubstep nights this year... wish me luck

not much left for the middle of the roaders, i guess. or that's the way promoters and marketers would let you see it. i just want rough beats and deep bass. i don't really want to laugh at tunes i want to laugh while listening/dancing to tunes. i don't want minute after minute of deep drone neither. basically, i just want horsepower and el-b to make more tunes.

So dubstep then...
