Why is American Football even called football? They hardly ever use their feet. It should be called Amercian Rugby for Pansies.
and, I defy you to play linebacker for four quarters and call it a pansy sport. Lots of pads yes, but lots of pain too... the pads are more weapons than protection. Nothing like the feeling of a full speed open field tackle on a helpless reciever

Back to your fotball convo, Ill stop with the comments...

lol fair enough mate. Yeah to be honest, I wouldn't fancy getting clattered by some of those massive bastards in NFL. I'd imagine it would be like getting hit by a lorry - sorry, truckkidlogic wrote:Because handball was already taken? Back to your fotball convo, Ill stop with the comments...It was right there though, had to take the shot... I will admit, the more football I watch, the more Im getting into it. Beckham's been a bit of a bust so far, but he did get a lot more intrest going in the American MLS league

Do you get the opportunity to see any Premiership football over there? That would make you a lot more interested than watching MLS. In particular, I'd recommend watching the mighty Aston Villa

Not to mention the crazy ass 60 yard one handed catches at full speed with said linebacker at your back, or the 99 yard kick returns dodging tackles the whole way down the field...deamonds wrote:as you said though, some of the tackles are nasty, so are some of the grotesque injuries...proper cringing to watch, hyperextending legs, that sort of thing...
sorry though, I dont want to thread jack and really dont have much to offer on the original topic

Yeah, theres a channel on cable that carries football most of the day, and covers the premiership, but I dont have cable anymore so... but when I did I watched a bit of it. Its good, but it can be a bit long since I dont really know the plays or how theyre run yet really so when theres no scoring or its just going back and forth its kinda tedious. But then again, I love baseball so I really cant talk about tedious...

Too many breaks, to much fucking about.
I do agree, a high school football (american) game is alot quicker and alot less time spent between plays and college basketball is in halves like football...
I have no excuse for baseball though. It is inheirantly slow. Still, nothing like going to the ballpark on a saturday and enjoying a game... all about the stat-keeping and beer drinking.
Now, I can kind of enjoy American Football, I have a reasonable understanding of the rules (thank you NFL Blitz 2000) and although it's a bit stop-start there are some entertaining bits. But baseball? Damn, that's a boring game right there. Who do you follow?kidlogic wrote:Thats why defense is so fun - much better to be the hitter than the hitt-ie.kins83 wrote:lol fair enough mate. There aren't 'plays' in football really. This is what I find interesting about american football, everything is micro managed down to the last detail. I'm basing this almost completely on the Madden games but yea real football's a lot more spontaneous.
Yeah man... an average baseball game is about 3 hours. But its fun to be at the park with friends, in the sun drinking... its really kinda relaxing and now that I know what the pitchers are doing and the chess game between him and the batters its a lot more interesting. Baseball is a game that requires some patience to watch, and is a lot better in person than on TV.Shook1 wrote:Kidlogic, thats one think whas the thing with baseball.
Someone was saying it takes all day but fuck all of it really matters, any truth behind that?
At least it's not daytona, watching people drive around ovals doesnt do it for me.
Nascar/Daytona is not cool. No matter how they try to dress it up. Driving in circles is dumb. Give me Baja or Rally if we're gonna race.
I'd put cricket in the same category. I really can't get into it when it's on the tv, but it's good to go and watch on a sunny day with mates and just get slowly, steadily, drunk. I also like fishing for the same reason although I haven't done that for a while.kidlogic wrote:Yeah man... an average baseball game is about 3 hours. Yeah, by play I meant like formations and defence schemes like in basketball...your mum wrote:kidlogic wrote:Thats why defense is so fun - much better to be the hitter than the hitt-ie.kins83 wrote:lol fair enough mate. Madden is pretty acurate, but there is still alot of spontinaety in american football. Even though the coach is calling the play, when the quarteback lines up he can change the play if he doesnt like the way the defense looks. Also when the play starts, one little change or missed block or whatever and the whole thing becomes improv.
Yeah, I can see that. Cricket also seems like one of those sports thats more fun to play than watch.kins83 wrote:I'd put cricket in the same category.
