ha ha
this is the funniest thread ever!
i started deejaying in 1991 at all the free warehouse/outdoor parties here in australia
classic times, classic tunes. Big influence on the scene were visiting UK backpackers mad into their rave. Ex-spiral tribe hippies and dutch hardcore maniacs settled here leaving an indellible sonic imprint.
i have recently been thinking about dubstep and its similarity to raw early 90s techno, times when there were no rules and no sub-genres. I've also noticed a subtle (or not so subtle in some cases) sampling or referencing of that early 90s sound in numerous tracks over the last 12 months or so.
The re-use of the mentasm sound, the way some tracks are letting the midrange version of the bass line (dare we call it melody?) get so close to a metasm rave noise/line (mig29 anyone?), or just out n out sampling of old rave tracks (TRG horny - AWESOME!).
I think its great.
Anyway if you all wanna hear the effect these mostly subconcious (until now) thoughts have had on my deejaying then why not head to:
http://www.voidsound.com
and download the set we (Sub Bass Snarl) played at VOID's first birthday in support of N-Type on May 2.
I should explain, for those not familiar, that since 1991 Sebastian and myself have rocked a decks + fx + sampler + etc set up so you will hear not just the tracks listed in the tracklist, but samples, fx and other drunken madness - oh and Steve Spacek on the mic
how many rave tracks can you spot??
:L
