Ambient/Electronic/Digi/Techno Dub & Future Roots Select

Post by echo wanderer » Mon May 12, 2008 5:01 am

My first mix for the forum!!!

No DJ tricks.
No beatmatching.
No bear hype over the music.
Just a blended journey of different dub sounds.

Including a few new and old ones of my own.

I hope you all enjoy it!!!

You don't have to download it if you don't want.No one's forcing you to.

As for no beatmatching, this is a dub selection.Study your history on Jamaican soundsystems and maybe you'll know what I'm gettin' at.It's called a selection, not a mix. There was not necessarily beatmatching, and songs were selected and blended by mood.In fact, that's the problem with a lot of djs today,it's all about beatmatching, not enough on the mood.I did this in basically an old school style, with newer school riddims. You want to know what I'm talking about?Listen to Monkeytek,Selector Dub U,Whistla,Ramadanman, and FSTZ's sets for example. They both beatmatch and select the proper mood.I can do the same thing, too, but I chose to do it like this - strictly on mood.I think it blends together with a rather nice flow, and since a lot of it is ambient, some of it doesn't even have a beat.

But like I said, you don't have to listen to it.I didn't want this to be a dance set,nor is it a dubstep set.I'm sorry if you can't understand my intentions with this, but that's no reason to insult someone for taking to time to put together something of sounds I think people would like.

Oh,and I don't see the point of a mix without mood really...

I'm not trying to insult anyone here bruv...

with todays possibilities in downloading music and downloading dj software there's a very low achievement degree in assembling "selections"

I don't mean this selection is not good or that u don't have a nice taste in music or whatever...

as u mention it's ambient mostly so hence there is probably some nice fade-mixes which do make it mixing (mixing that doesnt take skills but still...it's mixing)

and on the mood thing... I never heard a set without mood so I don't realy see ur point there... it's not becaus music is being mixed properly in a technical way that the selection or the way the mixes are put together doesnt reflect any emotion or personal taste... that's just a weird argument following ur personal reaction ...

I never wanted to make a personal statement with my reply and i wanna apoligies if it seemed to you like I did caus I didn't mean to...

I will download this now to see weather the fact that it's not matched bothers me or not ;-)

cheers

well yeh
nice tunes in here
but I get out of the flow at every point of transition which is not good for this kind of music imo...

for exemple I though at 4.08 : wow nice mix ! and he said he wasnt beatmatchin' :)
than i checked the tracklist and it seems it's one song... just as good anyway :D

but than at 6.53 u get this weird false notes and dissonant atmospheres and a total clash of rhytmic vibe...
u get torn out of the flowing vibe of space and cold area - like industiral dub sounds and put down next to a small river with weird animals sittin' in the bushes...
that's a weird trip for me =) it goes to fast =)

I mean ... I see the point that people like this set as a backgroundmusic thing or even to listen to intensly...
but u got to admit that these tunes would be payed more respect if they would be put in a more technicaly correct mix...it would be a mindblowing meditative experience...

must say bigup for the selection though, realy nice tunes in there !

Well,to each his own.I'm glad you at least listened to it.I'm sorry if it's not what you're used to hearing, but anyone in the know(and knows me and my own music as well) will understand what I am talking about and what I was doing with it.Tunes should get respect on thier own,not just through the mix.I think this selection does just as much for these tunes as any of the tunes in your mixes(I assume,as I've not heard any).

But yes, this is more a listening mix,not a dance one.And I appreciate the critique alot. Now if I spin out somewhere,I approach things more like you say.I beatmatch, make sprinklers, crossfade for the crowd because I'm not doin' it just for me,I want to keep a crowd moving!! :D

it's not so much about technical dj tricks for all I care... but as u say the "mood" does not always match to me (I guess that's kind of a personal thing) and that has got to do with both bpm and soundcolor of combo's
but yeh i'm sure the tracks as such 'stand out' more like this becaus u are more aware of seperate tracks when listening

must say ur own production and selection is top kwality bruv :!:

maybe try this for a dub/dubstep vibe from my behalf:
