Dubtechno or technodub ?

Post by epithet » Wed May 14, 2008 6:00 am

either or but i've been seeing this word bandied about a bit lately, specifically in regard to 2562's aerial album, of which i see voiceovered promos have been leaked already.

Am keen to check out more of this style which from what little i have heard reminds me of longtime dubhouse practitioners Pitch Black from NZ.

please, any recommendations/links/mixes/tunes/labels gratefully accepted.

Basic Channel and related labels created it, mastered it and eventually killed it. Most everything else is a poor version of what Moritz and Mark were doing in the early-mid 90s. Except maybe Convextion...

Bandulu get almost no props when it comes to these type of discussions. They were the real innovators if you ask me, and from London, really surprising they arent mentioned more on here.

I wouldn't really call Bandulu dub techno. Their remix of Slowdive is amazing though.

EDIT: Well this one kinda is, but in a different way from Basic Channel.

I used to mix this with Elemental - Soul Fire.

WORD. Bandulu were properly varied too. I think Basic Channel get over hyped. They didn't own the sound that's for sure. And now people like Echospace/Deepchord are staking their own claim to the territory.

Deep dub techno styles....

Mary Anne picked one of the tunes off that album for her upcoming Evangeline compilation.

Claro intelecto looks good. Got an electro ep of his from a few years ago that wasn't bad but to be honest, that basic channel stuff sounds a bit dated.

SCION and THAT tresor white CD mix from 2000

in www.synch.gr this year we have dubstep for the first time 'sandwiching' Moritz Von Oswald, one half of Maurizio. Line up goes like this Peverelist/Headhunter/Moritz V.O./Pinch

they were great. they used to play megadog back in the day before 'megadog' became a biword for 'stinking crusty psy-toss'. also caught them do a storming daytime set at a tribal gathering (the year kraftwerk played i think). they brought a real soundsystem attitude to the dance and hyped the crowd with a bit of toasting and stuff. really wicked and largely unheard of approach in techno at that time.
