Yeah, all of that.juliun_c90 wrote:they were great... they brought a real soundsystem attitude to the dance and hyped the crowd with a bit of toasting and stuff. really wicked and largely unheard of approach in techno at that time.
See also, from a bit before, Renegade Soundwave and Tackhead.

I used to love megadog, I went to loads, didnt give a fuck about the crusty tag as no one was putting on line ups like them and no one has till this very day.juliun_c90 wrote: they were great. they used to play megadog back in the day before 'megadog' became a biword for 'stinking crusty psy-toss'. also caught them do a storming daytime set at a tribal gathering (the year kraftwerk played i think). they brought a real soundsystem attitude to the dance and hyped the crowd with a bit of toasting and stuff. really wicked and largely unheard of approach in techno at that time.
Where else could you see Plastikman (saw the live set at tribal n'all - Hawtin at his best imo), Aphex, Orbital, Autechre, along side loads of jungle and other stuff... admitedly there was some shite (was never a fan of Ozrics or the trance stuff) but when they pulled out the electronic line ups they were second to none.
MC Teabag was a right prik though

Loved their 2 day rave in brixton academy, the beach rave and the eclipse festival too....
God i feel old thinking about all that - its a real shame that there is minimal diversity at nights nowadays..

...which was exactly the point. It's the SAME SOUND. I find the Echospace and Substance/Vainqueur-stuff to be very pleasant and atmospheric listening, but innovative it ain't.nakedlunch wrote:I have to disagree with this statment .I buy tones of dubtechno on vinyl .. Dub techno post-Basic Channel/Chain Reaction always ends up sounding like a copy of these labels to a certain degree. Even Headhunter's new stuff can't seem to free itself from it completely, as much as I like some of it.
There's a reason BC themselves dropped dub techno completely and started doing actual dub instead. Time to stop dwelling on the massively reverbed pads/background hiss-combo and go back to the drawing board.
Hmmm.....
got to say, having listened to that mix, it takes me back....
and I'm not sure if that's a good thing for me....
Not dissing the mix, it's well executed and it's nice for me to be able to hear what everyone was talking about.. so cheers for putting it up..

Believe me I've heard a great deal of what these people have to offer, but it just doesn't cut it.nakedlunch wrote:andy stott , ub313 , cv313 , deepchord , quantec , mike huckaby , carlo intelecto , mlz , labels like echospace , echochord , modern love , styrax leaves , cache
Convextion on the other hand is great because it fuses BC dub techno with an ambient, kinda summer night vibe.

Show me any genre of music that is still innovative after nearly 20 yearsSand Leaper wrote: innovative it ain't.

Then its just a matter of opinion , on the other hand if you see the amount of hype and frenzy buying that follows any deep chord or echospace related release its hard to stand by a comment like thatOry wrote:Believe me I've heard a great deal of what these people have to offer, but it just doesn't cut it.

Convextion to my list also , he appears regularly on echospace related releases and has done some amazing remixes for echospace . But I do agree he has a unique approach to what he does and sits well between the Berlin and Detroit sounds. Its just a shame he does not make more music

all good. love everything mentioned above. but not sure about what to call the dubstep/techno crossover that's gradually filling my shelves at the moment.
dubtechno is established as something else, like the modern love or BC releases. the latest tectonic, skull disco, applepips releases are more like a deep dubstep or technostep or some dumb phrase. it's getting increasingly difficult for me to explain to people exactly what I mean when i say i listen to dubstep. I really only like this crossover sound but people always think i mean rusko etc. nothing wrong with the brockout sound, but that's not what I like.
it's like saying you listen to hiphop when you mean flying lotus or dabrye not biggie and tupac.
there's loads of discussions on here about exactly what I'm saying. I reckon there's a new term on the horizon, just wish I was comfortable with labelling the music I love all the time.....
sorry about the speech, I'm in a reflective mood today. must be the echospace compilation I'm listening to right now

Yeah i know what you mean. There is a reluctance to subgenrify dubstep even to the inclusion of breakstep but hiphop manages quite well with its offshoots cos you can qualify it with terms like crunk, hyphy, g funk, dirty south and people still know what you're on about. Stuff like funkstorung and sixtoo are a bit harder to classify though.
I didn't realise dubtechno was so established and so *old *
BTW who have you got on your dubstep/techno crossover shelf ?
