Following on from the dubstep haters thread........

we only got 348400 in chchnz and only just over 4 million people in the whole country so i think we do alright
I didn't get the satire bit. I know nothing of this publication. I guess I thought it was serious because I read the same shit up on DOA everyday. They might actually be serious on there. Nothing wrong with not liking dubstep, it's these comments from people that come off as if they are waging a war against dubstep or something... It's kinda LOL.
the democratic function of a journalist is to inform and entertain. They seem to have achieved both.Willis wrote:this is a really cheap and tacky piece of journalism
Dubstep, although getting bigger, is still a pretty undergound and you got a local paper who have just, for good or bad, raised interest in dubstep. They've indirectly promoted dubstep.
It's tongue in cheek and the writer would of had to of known at least a decent basic knowledge of dubstep to write it e.g. the referencing to the next jump up killer at FWD. I wouldn't be surprised if the writer was actually a dub hed.
So, in my opinion, on the contrary, I think this is a successful piece of journalism.
Get over this boys and girls; I'm still gonna be at the next DMZ regardless of this article, so are you, so whatever.

I can never quite understand these articles, especially when the people that write them are probably the embodiment of exactly what they rant about i.e starched combat trouser wearing, urban mullet sporting, faux black rimmed, electro house induced sheep being Shepherded across the wasteland of micro journalism and finding themselves confined to a tiny section of a regional newspaper in which their opinion is either of so little worth or purely out of fear they do not include thier name of birth upon its text. Basically I read this article and see some junior sapling fresh out the churnmill of a 3 year degree in media and journalism attempting to be Charlie Brooker, not quite making it, then slating the "overly-zealous" journalists they probably wished they were had they actually been employed by The Guardian, Wire et al. However, all things said and done in the interest of fairness do you have links to all the other forms of music and culture the aptley if not slightley neandertholic named "Savages" have slated, The Deli Lama, Charity Workers, Hitmen etc etc?????The Night Times wrote:its all air anyway, its satire................
Although reading the whole thread helps

In case you don't know, there's a word for bollox like that on forums already, it's called being a Troll.
Satire is supposed to be funny. Just ranting isn't.

that's bollocks mate. this article isn't trying to inform or entertain. it's just a series of cliches rolled off to try and provoke a reaction and get attention; the most childish form of journalism. and i don't think anyone was planning on missing dmz because of it.Antloss wrote:the democratic function of a journalist is to inform and entertain. this is kind of a tangent
but...
Alot of you from the U.K.,( where dubstep from what I can tell seems to have the largest following/scenes/events........ ) claim that dubstep is still "underground". I am in Toronto and well sadly dubstep was not given the friendliest welcome, and it still isnt the captain of the football team....you know?
BUT... I've come to notice alot of mainstream attention to dubstep in North America. A large number of people i know outside of "underground scenes" listen, know and LOVE mainstream bigtime.
why would this be???

Good 2 hear!! keep us informed!!!emalkay wrote:Dubstep is obviously making it's presence felt in Birmingham right now, this article confirms it and it's about bloody time n all. Out to all the promoters who are gambling quite a lot to make these events happen, it's not easy, as you'll probably hear some of the bigger nights like the one at ear drum are drawing in massive crowds but it's not always the case, it's got a very long way to go yet but rest assured I'll be doin my bit over the coming months you'll see! Just keep those eyes peeled.
