Mixer- phono to phono into the amp
Amp- jack to jack goin into soundcard and into 'record' hole.
Sound coming out when im playing mixes etc, but if I want to record any sound going in I gotta change to the mic input on the soundcard.

sounds like u can hear thru the "Line In" 1/8th" in socket yeah? but u gotta switch to "mic In" to get level in ur recording App?
If thats the case find the volume control recording bit (in Windoze, dunno bout mac) and make sure "line In" is selected as a recording source, while yr der make sure "mic in" is de-selected, ya nah wann dat shit, & turned all the way down as a pre-caution.
You shud be right once the system sound is set up but chk your wave device settings in ur app as well, if that dont work

make sure it's in "line in" and not mic, cuz you could blow your card if you run mic
