and i did

just recieved my paypal transfer today and bought over 30.19 pounds (44,09 euros) on mp3 releases and 3 lose tracks on bleep.com

but now i'm forced to wait untill more released become available on mp3...

don't worry, i don't download ripped mp3's and liking them and don't buy them if they get available,
and defenately will not play them out without paying for it or recieve permission from the producer him/herself.

Kinda contradicts this entire thread no? Or are mixes different from pirating single tunes (which I would never bother to do anyway as I don't EVER listen to individual dubstep tunes without being mixed/mixing them myself. I have just started so I only have four vinyls and am broke. Of course I download and listen to mixes then.

I'd never checked Bleep.com out until today, and I will go on a spending spree next pay day... but I wish there were some Tempa releases up for Mp3 purchasing. Any word on Chef's website idea?

Spent allmost 70 euros on bleep in one shot(who cares?)

But i'd prefer vynil....and about filesharing...i admit i been lookin for some stuff to listen to,seek on vynil and mp3s to play out....would feel like shit stealing other ppl music...

my 2 cents.

bleep.com is LOVELY and i have spent more money there than any other mp3 site, but the selection is fairly small, and it seems to take forever to get new stuff up.

i realize there is probably a purposeful lag time between vinyl release and mp3 release, but let's just put this on the table. as long as the mp3 purchasers are considered second best to vinyl purchasers, there is gonna be some file sharing until the releases come out. faster response to the digital market demand will not kill filesharing altogether (nothing will, so we are just gonna have to deal and realize in some cases that we just have to chalk it up to good publicity), but it will prevent some more folk from slsking tunes.

digital stuff is here to stay, and until we face that and deal with the fact that home taping didn't kill the industry and neither will mp3...it's just gonna be a lot of whining and crying over something that you can use to your advantage.

does filesharing affect record sales? i am sure it does. but does it also potentially increase the listener base, with a huge possiblity of people going out to see you play, or buying an album or cd later? i think it does. i found one of my records on mp3 on slsk...did i freak? no. because it was the highest seller on the label, and i have had quite a few people PM me and ask how to get the record (and they had the mp3 in their shares). it's a double edged sword yes, but if you know how to use both sides, you won't cut yourself...

Yes I do run it... mixes are different though. Most of these are low quality and / or mono recordings with static in. Some are high quality mixes and I get supported by most of the artists (PMs asking me to upload their show etc).

One major difference is you can't cut out a tune from a mix and play it on your show... You could but it would sound like shit, being re-encoded loads of times, not having the intro / outro etc.

If people really have a problem with Barefiles (which they don't) Then I will close it and you can go back to yousendit links of mixes...

I am developing a dangerous habit. I spend way too much to have dubstep vinyl shipped to California, even when legal mp3s are available via bleep. It defies logic and budget alike.

I will usually buy mp3 if the pressing is out of stock in retail, or out of print. But if the vinyl is available to me, I will almost always go that route.

I have posted stuff on my blog, but I always use a flash player to stream. I would prefer for people to support independent music and I won't be giving stuff away by dubstep artists.

they made the scene healthier, as do mp3's...thing is are the kids can get music easyier nowadays thro the net, but if you where to sell merch at the dance, i think alot of people who came thro discovering it on mp3 would buy the vinyl (best press to cdr if you want to make £, the kids dont have turntables anymore, (winky emo con thingy))

deapoh, i agree with the overall point you (& luke envoy) make but i have to say that there are many people like me who discover music through filesharing and then go out and buy the record at the first opportunity. i can't count the number of records i've purchased that i never would have bought had i not been able to first get to know the tracks as downloaded mp3s.

i am fully down with supporting artists & the scene but i think filesharing does increase sales & makes the scene grow. just my view though, i'm sure some would disagree with me. there are definitely shameless wankers who will rip off artists, but are they outweighed/outnumbered by the people who buy tracks they like?
