nah nah, it's not bad, it's just very similar and a style that's hard to do well, given the competition and proximity to other genres.

honestly that wasn't a bad review: i mostly dont bother reviewing stuff that truly makes my blood boil... badmind doesnt help anyone.
It helps me pass my day tho

Appleblim interview is enjoyable stilhol

it doesn't seem a bad review to me indeed. "monochrome" is describes the album quite well, now that i got it in the mail and listened to it

that said , the strenght of single tunes is not diminished by the feeling you get that Aerial doesn't sound like a proper album

It does seem like he's gone down the road of stereotypical Berlin minimal techno facelessness, with a bit of token funk thrown in. :?

Definitely, but it's an underachievement considering what we know Mr Huismans is capable of.

The Appleblim interview is great.

Can I echo the sentiment that you're crazy re: 2562?

Well, I still haven't properly listened to the new LP, but judging his previous work I gotta say I really don't agree with putting 2562 in the same 'Berlin influenced' package as Appleblim & Peverelist, I mean, sure he's listened to a lot of Berlin techno but I hear a wider spectrum of shades on 2562's tunes than in most of the Bristol techno/dubstep connection, it brings me a lot of reminiscences of classic US house (and a bit of US techno as well) that I don't find in almost any of the Bristol producers.

So I guess yeah, if you see his music as an "European techno" offshoot he's probably not the best at it, but I see his music as a lot more than that.

I've personally never been too keen myself with the majority of the dubby/minimal techno coming out of Berlin (and Europe in general), while I've been a big fan of early techno and house coming out of the US since I was a kid, so I guess that's why I enjoy his music more than most of the Bristol dubby-tech thing

Well for me, Peverelist sounds more Detroit influenced (which I prefer over Berlin minimal). Just listen to his pads and melodies... yum.

Whereas 2562 is all about dub chords, and there aren't really any melodies to speak of. After hearing so many Basic Channel clones, not to mention broken techno variations of them, the album just doesn't work for me as a whole.

I'd like it if he kept doing stuff like "Kameleon" and the remix of "Brother", where there's something else thrown into the mix. :D

Agreed. It wasn't negative, just descriptive.
