You are correct, you do not have to subscribe to my theories, I thank you for taking the time to read an respond to them though.

In response to your points above I think the mixes serve an attendant audience i.e. they are seen and received by people already aware of the music. How many people heard Dubstep Wars when it was "on"? - Yes it did loads for the scene but where did most people (myself included) get it from? File sharing!

Seckle - I respect you and your opinion just mine is different is all.

isnt recording off the radio the same as dling a mp3.

i have the vexd album, the breezeblock mix, some other mixes and alot of mp3's of dubstep....other than vexd i dont really listern to it at home, because it is all about the bass and i dont have 18" scopes in my bedroom...i'd rather save up me pennys get a train to london and goto a dance.

the mp3's get a listern to sometimes but mostly go on mix tapes that i send to friends/people i swap tapes with.

i also only buy records from record shops, because i like record shopping.

What a thread.

Age old topic here, MP3 sharing will never stop.
Try to find ways to advantage it. Stay positive.

I support file sharing, for personal pleasures. Never commercial use.

I hate forums.

ez Deapoh, yer always starting these loooong as threads/topics. STFU for once. :P

and i should add:

I have a lot of MP3s. I dont have a record player.

People sending me MP3's is what got me into the scene so much. It's why i feel justified spending money in other way to support the scene.

I think ive spent more money on supportting the scene in other ways to pay for all my mp3's by now..

Yeah, I mean - are you buying the producers a kebab and a Stella every day?

Because if you think that you paying cover/buying drinks at the club their songs are being played at directly affects their bottom line in any way, shape or form, your logic is flawed. You may indirectly be supporting the DJs (who may or may not be the producers of some of the tracks played that night), but you're not putting money in the pockets of all the producers whose MP3s you "own".

If you like the music, support the musicians by buying their product. Or else there will be fewer musicians making music because they will have to spend more time trying to clothe, shelther, and feed themselves (i.e. get a day job).

Honestly, if you ain't got decks and you're not a DJ - the mp3s on bleep etc. are dirt cheap compared to the vinyl.

Even if you are a DJ - if you have access to CDJs/Serrato/FS, buy the MP3s unless they were given to you by the label/producer.

If you're a fan but can't afford to buy singles, get mixes ... they're there for the taking.

vinyl retentive ;)

I don't think there's an excuse for filesharing. It's wrong, but nothing's going to change and people aren't going to feel guilty enough to stop doing it, so we can either get pissed off about it (or feel bad about it) or we can adapt.

And I don't think we're going to change many people's computing habits by being sanctimonious on a messageboard.

Regarding the lifestyle's of the producers: it's a path they choose- some people earn fuck all and hate their jobs, and get no respect for what they do. Making music makes you happy!

I think Dubstep producers are less in danger from filesharing than commercial artists, because a higher percentage of people who listen to the music are passionate about it and likely to buy it.

Adapt, adapt, adapt. there must be some way of taking advantage of the filesharing situation!

Why don't, as other people have suggested, producers "watermark" the tunes in some inoffensive/hidden way and upload it themselves? At least if you hear it out you'll know if someone's using a pirate version then you can go and talk to them!

Anybody else have any ideas?

Tho's that know, know and tho's that know, know there is more to come when I return to London in a few months.

Its all about the love of the music, i dont think to many people are in this scene to make profits. Good luck if you are.
