Always loved visual art when some dutty beats were playing. Someof the detonate events running here in notts have live grafiti done by the local crews and guest artists, and its a really nice addition i think. Kinda connects with the urban vibe of the music.
Funny thing this thread, and also raises a keen lill' question. Iv never really considered dubstep to be free party music, warehouse definatly, but here in the midlands alot of the free partys are slung outdoors in muddy fields and have to involve the following three things to be able to call itself a free party - ketamine, mud, and white girls with dreadlocks. Not things that i personally have seen at alot of dubstep raves (well girls with dreads maby, and there was that one night kev broke out the horse tranq and we were all so drunk it and it seemed like such a good idea....but mud never....well cept that loefah tune......fuck it).
The question i think this all raises is - why havnt more people thought of doing 'step at free partys?
Its obviously a wikkid idea, and a very cohesive one considering the aesthetics of sound system culture which both dubstep and free parties share.
Is it cos dubstep isnt really drug fuelled rave music where as drum and bass and acid techno are?
Is it cos sometimes an open air system cant pound enough bass into your skull as a tight rig in a darkened cave?
Im interested in peoples thoughts on the matter.
I work with soundsystems semi-proffessionaly, promote and dj on a deeply amatuer level, dig the co-op spirit of the free party scene, and love nothing more than a wobbly sub and a half step beat, so whats to say we cant get something together on a larger scale or with more regularity?
Nothing probably, and this warehouse gig certainly seems like a step in the right direction, so BRRRRAAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!!

sorry to correct you mate, but im talking about the occasional all dayers they pull (granted they aint frequent), and have live graf out in the courtyard outside stealth. Went to the last one and it was pretty cool, though having a bbq next to that many aerosols had mans sweating.

oh ya! i getcha, was just making it clear for folk who thought that was what we had going on, that sounds pretty cool still, with an outdoor bit would be heavy (i think we got use of a courtyard on the night too but stirctly for chilling outside).Broken Silence wrote:sorry to correct you mate, but im talking about the occasional all dayers they pull (granted they aint frequent), and have live graf out in the courtyard outside stealth.
