Glastonbury - Dubstep it went off!

Post by spaniard » Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:11 am

Thought i'd post his up.
Dubstep at Glastonbury was mad. An experience to say the least.

Big up Appleblim on the Friday with a heavy old skool garage set finished of with a bit of dubstep intimate little venue called the igloo but we were going mad at the front.

Skream b2b Benga on the Staurday night long ass trek from watching Jay-Z but well worth it. Bassline circus tent was rammed. That set was pure fire banger after banger was too much then this crazy act involving fire and crazy sparks on metal came on during Simple City and Victim Support was bloody unreal. And some mad MC came on was nuts. There repping with my 3rd birthday t-shirt.

Sunday Caspa & Rusko people were going mad simple as that.
Magnetic Man was packed even though there was so many heavy acts on at the same time. the mix and match of th tunes was sick.

Im sure dubstep will be back next year as well and maybe they will be at the main dance venues.

Big up all the acts on show.

But surely electronic music has no place in the glastonbury tradition of guitar music?

haha only joking, long time coming though.

Lol, you seen this? http://youtube.com/watch?v=sJKJwMiOtiU

Jay Z's cover of Wonderwall - stroke of genius. I wish I'd caught his show.

And yeah, big up Appleblim at Glastonbury, 2 badman sets, both killed it, really different each time as well.

Did anyone off here go in that silent disco thing? It was kind of entertaining but would have been loads better with sub woofers. Someone needs to suggest it for next year.

Big up Benga, Skream, Wedge, Gatekeeper, Sophie and all family inside.

I was seriously jealous for a second there :) Aphex Twin live is a joy to behold and Squarepusher is possibly the greatest live thing ever. Kills it every time.

After Jay Z on the saturday I just about managed to find Shangri-La in time to catch Skream & Benga coming on in a packed tent, but was a bit dissapointed.
Don't get me wrong the tunes they played were amazing and the crowd was going nuts, but I dunno what the fuck the tent organizers were thinking when they pushed the crowd back 10 steps to have 3 crap fire dancers doing something that only the front row could see (I was about 4 people back) when they had a perfectly good stage they could've done it on.
One of the deck needles kept jumping and reloading the tracks as well, not their fault though.
Was quite funny when Daddy Freddy (the MC that Spaniard was on about) came on during the Caspa remix of Where's My Money (kinda ruined the drop :?) and spat a few rhymes, calling S&B "bad motherfuckers" that "play dubstep like der in Jamaica!"
The so called "Bassline" tent had hardly any bass weight at all though. I dunno, maybe it was just where I was standing.
Still a wicked end to the night though!

Not so on the G-Stage... Didn't get a bit of tinitus all weekend, but Magnetic Man ruined my eardrums! Was stood at the front and got crushed a few times when everyone went mental, fucking awesome!
Caught about 45mins of Caspa & Rusko's set as well, which was pretty damn heavy :D

Did anyone else catch Beardyman!? If anyone doesn't know he uses 2 Kaos pads to loop and distort live beatboxed samples to build up tracks and freeformed a few dubstep tracks in his set... I'll try and get the vid I took on youtube at some point and post it here. Made a few awesome live D&B tracks as well :D
