ok ok.. the music is whatever, some good bits, some.. meh, but why is this considered a "genre"? A pisstake really, don'tcha think? Its not different than anything that hasn't been heard yet - but i guess that's the point. All in fun right?
It should be called "bored with chiptunes - whats next?"
Akufen has more funk than any of it. Just sayin.

no, it's not a pisstake at all, altho the music certainly has a sense of fun. there were 3000 people bumping and grinding to the sounds at sonar -- that is serious. why is it a new genre? because it's not 8-bit and it's not electro and it's not anything else. is it a revolution? no of course not but it is a quite real evolution and much more unique in sound and character than many other forms which have well-accepted genre names. not all of it is funky but some of it is uber funky -- check mesak, randy barracuda, stickem, to name a few.

you can get that lipton service boy track on the planet mu sampler cd which came with plan B magazine a month or so ago, got some other great non-skweee tracks on it too,
not sure what kind of releases planet mu have in mind for eero johannes, you never know might be the first skweee artist album!

you can get the magazine ( with cd) still at
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=96101
Only £3.50 plus postage,
It's got other tracks by vex'd, ital tek, milanese, venetian snares, parson, boxcutter plus others as well,
magazine is quite indie focused but it's not a bad read
