How to stop Djs from playing illegal Mp3s in the club ?

Post by sio2 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:27 pm

Its happening all around me and it pisses me off so much !

I've worked too damn hard for too long playing and selling legitimate vinyl to Djs to just sit back, let some kid come into the club, get up on stage plug in the DAMN Serato  and play a set of illegally downloaded music. GGgrrrrrrrrr I want to get on stage and fucking punch them in the damn nose.

I want to bring new people into the scene but DAMN... so

I need help fellas. How do you talk to your djs and get them to know what they are doing is the worst thing they can do.

Do i have to talk to promoters and get them to stop booking these guys ? If all the djs who played illegal shit stopped getting gigs around here there would only be a small handfull of Djs left standing..

Any strategies I can try ? How can I stop these guys from getting on stage and playing that weak ass MP3 shiiite ?

How do you know they haven't payed for it?. If you hear them bragging about it, talk to them innit. :|

surely if -

they are illegal mp3s they sound like shit, thus their set sounds like shit, thus they get less bookings

or else

you are just wrong, they paid for their mp3s and you are just vexed that non-vinyl djs are taking your bookings?

haha. Your not serious are you?

Why does everyone in dubstep care so much about filesharing, vinyl sales are really strong! why waste your energy? Besides a lot of the top labels don't even sell mp3s in which case they obviously don't even care about filesharing.

Plastician uses serato and I highly doubt he gets his tunes off of *edited by moderator* what ever people use these days.

deadly serious i'm afraid sir, deadly

i doubt there are many that are of decent quality and the whole song, i'm sure you could prove me wrong though, you horrible little file-sharing sympathiser

all joking aside, you would have to be the biggest asshole on the planet to not be able to either a.) find songs on digital download sites and pay £1 for each one or b.) find vinyl and rip for yourself or c.) just go out reaaaaaaaaly frequently to hear your tunes

almost everyone who is on the net a lot has stolen some kind of digital property be in films or music or whatever, but some things are more important than others - unreleased tunes etc.etc. should be sacred

Agreed, if there illegal MP3's then they must sound like shit. Nothing wrong with Serato though and all of my tunes are legit :D

Nothings wrong with Serato. I agree. the thing about Serato is that it makes it real easy to play those Illegal Mp3s in the club. I'm finding that the ones bringing the Serato into the club are the ones that are suspect.

The good thing about vinyl is that there is no doubt as to the legitimate nature of the release.

I dont know that tunes were paid for or not, but i do trust in my feelings. When i hear a DJ playing the best classic tunes from 10 years ago and they've only been in the game 3 years, whats that tell you ? they never have $$ for beer or to buy the vinyl I sell in the club, do you think they are really paying for these tunes ?

I guess thats part of Djing right. To make it in the industry you have to be open about what you play and how you play it.

I saw Eminem tear a new asshole in this Dj one time XM radio show, The dumbass Dj brings Eminem into his studio live on the air and starts the interview. Eminem looks at the guy and starts asking him about a couple big mixtapes he made a few years back that had a few unreleased tunes from M on there... This Dj got fried ! Eminem cursed him out on the air and left the studio.

guess i'll just going to continue to talk about it to my peers, the club owners and the promoters to not book these Djs . Then I'll post about it online and just make sure that they know thier good reputation is on thin ice ...

As these new kids come into the scene they have to know that if you bring it to the club, it had better be legit. If its not... I'm gonna start yelling...

first post on here, as i normally just lurk waiting for news on when feral witchchild 12" is coming out, but why on earth would an illegal mp3 neccessarily sound shit? surely if the person who's sharing it decided to rip it at 320, or as FLAC, it'd be fine?

come on
playing a tune u didn't pay for or u didn't get directly from a producer is LAME
a dj should always be supporting the producers he is reppin !
That means for them more sales and they can work easier to make some amazing tracks !
That's the one and only way !!!!

Maybe they're broke from spending all their money on mp3's? Maybe they're not buying your vinyl because they have serato and would prefer to purchase digital tracks?

I'm not trying to sound naive here (I know a lot of people use tracks procured from less-than-respectable sources), but maybe you could give them the benefit of the doubt?

yeah yeah, obviously i'm not saying everybody should hit slsk and grab all the 320 rips of dubplates they can get their hands on, just pointing out that there's no de facto reason for an illegal mp3 to sound worse than a legal one.

You are right... thing is I have been giving them the benefit of the doubt. These Djs continue to get gigs and never post any mixes or tracklistings or nothin.

I dont know whats on thier harddrive but i garuntee they know whats in my record box. Its obvious to me. They are bootlegging these tunes and playing all the well known, hands in the air, jump-up rmx hip hop tunes. They never talk about buying tunes or where they got thier Mp3s.. actually i overheard one of them talking about getting tunes from the Torrent and i saw another Dj actually downloading tunes from *edited by moderator* in the club... Grrrrrrr... these same Djs are plying before and after me in the lineup. I tell yah, i wanna fight...

the stuff these guys are playing aint 320 & when you turnit up it sounds all fuzzy and then when the next guy plays and puts real vinyl record on, the clarity and DEEPness is so much better.

I find vinyl has been mastered differently than an Mp3 also. Often times the track is mastered by the artsist, the label & the manufacturer so when the vinyl actually gets into my hands and on the sound system turned up... the sound is always better rather than from a suspect Mp3 from a suspect Dj.
