memories of the future......sounds lifeless......am i wrong? i don't think i'd use the word dubstep to describe it.
Those tunes get a lively reaction.

[quote]why should we reply to this if you don't explain why you think it's lifeless?[/quote
don't reply if you don't feel you should. there is no context.......it just sounds dead to me. deadstep. no fire in the belly..... but maybe that's because i'm not yet a member of the dub zombie army of the non-dead. soon enough.

I'd use the word lifeless to describe quite a few of the tunes I hear these days... not so much for that album tho. I'd say it captures a period in time in which dubstep had momentum in every conceivable direction, while retaining a truly dread core. now dubstep is understood as a dance music, and has stylistically eroded, even within that context. I'd recommend digging in the dubstep past for some interesting material!

I would say dystopian rather than lifeless.
free Dubstep mixes (links to loads of mixes, please contact me if you want to add anything)
Listen to the technocolour synths in quantum or the undulating bass in correction and the horn samples in 9 samurai (taken from akira kurasawa's 7 samurai). These sounds reflect concepts such as honour, sacrifice and war that are prevalent in the film. Kode9 used these to great effect. To say these things are lifeless seems a little backward. The lyrics are reflective on life processes, of the way people think and act. I think it is subdued in parts, and looks on a dismal future, but that doesn't make it dead. However, if someone wants to hear death in it, then that's how they will recieved it.[/i]

Lifeless is not the word I'd use...you are listening to the wrong artist if you don't feel it so move on. MOTF is one of my favorite albums/recordings at the moment...forget "dubstep" or any other genre. Sounds like you are more into other more traditional producers so seek them out. I can come up with comparisons like this to any genre of music...any piece of art. Maybe MOTF will grow on you b/c it's just so original sounding.

ha, I've listened to MOTF a few more times and have to admit there are potent signs of life that i didn't notice the first time through. i agree with all the comments about the irrelevance of whether or not the album can be accurately labeled as dubstep, in the end, each creation is it's own mini-genre anyway. i'd still say the music is too dark and sparse for my liking, but the more i listen to it the less empty it sounds.
Hooray, so that's that cleared up then.ursditsky wrote:ha, I've listened to MOTF a few more times and have to admit there are potent signs of life that i didn't notice the first time through. i agree with all the comments about the irrelevance of whether or not the album can be accurately labeled as dubstep, in the end, each creation is it's own mini-genre anyway. i'd still say the music is too dark and sparse for my liking, but the more i listen to it the less empty it sounds.
