No joke. I just visited Stalin's Birthplace on holiday last week and they have a massive statue in the centre, there is a Stalin Road, there is a massive museum with all his paraphinalia and his old railway carriage...Cafes still have his picture up on the wall.metalboxproducts wrote:lolr33lc4sh wrote:yea... some people in russia still love stalin...
The tour doesn't mention any of his (rather large) bad points or his despotic behaviour, but just goes on about all his strong action etc. I can see why (everywhere wants to have a famous son i guess?) and he was a very strong leader who whipped the country into a modern industialised nation from a land of feudal peasants but it came across a little strange! He is calculated to be responsible for around 50m deaths when the massive famine of the 30s is counted which he could have stopped if he had wished.
