I think if some established head had made this, rather than Pendulum, people would be jizzing all over it saying it's teh great.

:)

Apart from that shit vocal, obviously.

Established head: I made this. Check it out!
People: It is teh awesome OMGZFG! Can I felate you?
Established head: Nah mate, just kidding LOL it's Pendulum, you shithead.
People: Um, yeah, we are kidding too! It's rubbish! It's unscene! Pendulum are shit and ruined teh Drum 'n' Bass and now they're ruining Dubstep!
Established head: Nah mate, just kidding. It's me. LOL!
People: Sounds good, though. It's got some pace to it.
Established head: LOL. It's not. It's Pendulum and you're a homo for liking them.
People: Um.

lol, so let me get this straight:

Producers whom we like dabbling into other genres == good ("Good for producer X expanding his/her horizons")

Producers whom we don't like dabbling into our genre == bad ("Goddammit, producer Y is going to single-handedly destroy the scene")

Someone needs to make a chart.

Pendulum can produce you know.... they have made some heavy heavy plates before they signed to breakbeat chaos and forever since used the same samples.

Just because they are going in a different direction and expirementing doesnt mean they are shit, good on them. And that tune doesnt sound half bad, like people said, if someone of the same jump up esq type productions did it, it would be a fucking stomper

the tune at 2 mins in is good, the first one sucked.

the bassline sounds like a slowed down version of voyager...

why do you folk worry so much about an artist coming and ruing 'your' music

so what if pendulum does dubstep

if it's good music, it's good music

this dubstep vip they have done isn't terrible.
i probably wouldn't play it unless i got it for free but it's decently produced (no surprise) and i am sure it'll rock dance floors regardless of who knows pendulum made it or not (i didn't read the whole thread, so if this is regurgitated, my apologies...)

PENDULUM LOVES BABIES, I SEEN HIM LOOKING AT THEM...LOVINGLY! DO NOT LET PENDULUM MOVE INTO YOUR NEIGBOURHOOD, HE WILL FUCK UP YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH GROUP WITH HIS BABY LOVING.

I kind of agree with that sentiment, but you can also see why a lot of people who've been in the scene a while get their knickers in a twist. It goes like this:
1) people like older jungle / dnb - sub bass heavy, often rootsy, mix of soulful and aggro, varied sounds and structures
2) as the scene grows, midrange takes over from sub, aggro dominates soul and the sounds and structures get less varied, especially in a lot of what gets played out.
3) lots of people who used to like the old stuff stop listening to DnB. Some of them pick up on a great new genre called dubstep - small friendly scene, again, sub bass heavy, often rootsy, mix of soulful and aggro, varied sounds and structures.
4) Again, as the scene grows, midrange takes over from sub, aggro dominates soul and the sounds and structures get less varied, especially in a lot of what gets played out. This happens at the same time that a lot of people who listen to and make aggy midrangey dnb get into the dubstep scene and start listening to and supporting aggy midrangey dubstep.
5) lots of people who used to like the old stuff start getting fed up with dubstep too.

This is a massive oversimplification, obviously - I've been really surprised in the past to find that dubstep records I like are coming from dnb producers I don't like, and not everyone who wants to hear Cockney Thug knockoffs and nothing else is a drum and bass fan, I'm sure some of them were listening to irish traditional music or hi-nrg before as well. And yeah, it's all part of life's rich tapestry and I don't think whingeing about it helps anything and I don't think we're going to get far with a 'No Clownsteppas' door policy at dubstep nights or anything. And fuck it, I'm sure there are more people at the sort of nights I'm really into now than there were at the biggest dubstep nights anywhere about three or four years ago.

BUT

I do sometimes get the urge to shout "WHY COULDN'T YOU BE HAPPY JUST FUCKING UP ONE SORT OF MUSIC I LIKE?" And it doesn't surprise me that other people do too.

they clearly tried to rip night...

not bad though but still didnt expect pendulum to just blatenly copy parts from that tune...

for me it is not that I don't think pendulum have the right to make dubstep, of course they do. it's that this - putting a remix by yourself on the b of your new single and just calling (dubstep remix) somehow smacks of them riding the current popularity of the genre to boost there sales.

Perhaps they genuinely are into the sound, and then fair enough,

I don't like the track personally, but can see why some people will

I just hope that the reasons behind it are a genuine passion for trying something different
