Shelf life of a dubstep tune
Shelf life of a dubstep tune
coming as a lot of people seem to do, from a dnb background where tunes are played on plate for a very short amount of time before being discarded for newer beats, i wondered how this compares to dubstep? are new dubs rinsed for a short time by the top players as in dnb, or are they more likely to draw for a mixture of older and newer tunes?

depends on the selector. some times its 90% FRESH . ALSO IT DEPENDS ON HOW OFTEN CERTAIN DJS PLAY . IF YOU WERE AT FWD AND THEN AT DMZ THE NEXT DAY ITS GOING TO BE SIMILAR TRACKS IN CERTAIN SETS . SO ALL PRODUCERS STOP SLEEPING !

so to answer your question properly, certain tunes like haunted (coki) are a year old, still get pull up. when you have to get stoopid its good to do it twice!

think esp as more people are getting in the sounds the older tracks are gonna be just as fresh as the new ones - theres not really a hugely signifigant difference in production quality and tunes still stand in there own right. If, like poax said, alot of dj's feel compelled to play the same new stuff, theres still a highly credible backcatalogue to dip into which is too good to ignore.
Think because in Dnb producers started almost using each release as a next step down their specific style [Hazard inparticular springs to mind], new records almost became like updates, hence why would anyone want to play the older stuff. Dubstep as yet isn't on that path.

Yea, that's sgt poax, he knows
I love playing old tunes from all kinds of genres. To some it's the first time they may have heard it, for others it can be a nostalgic experience
Love mixing new stuff with old stuff
