Korg MicroKontrol

Post by sinewave » Mon Jul 10, 2006 7:57 pm

Does anyone have this ?

I've had it for a while now, and I'm still having great difficulties in using it. Its certainly not as easy as my Evolution MK controller is to use with Cubase and/or Ableton.

The manual is a bitch as whatever it says should happen when I follow certain steps doesn't happen at all.. as if the MicroKontrol has a mind of its own.

Can anyone shed some light on this ? have similar difficulties ? help ??

yeah i've got one, know what you mean.

are you using the librarian that came with it? I find that if theres a map in there for a specific DAW or VST then things run smoothly but if there isn't one its just a pure nightmare.

Is there anything inparticular that keeps happening? i'm keen to work this one out myself too.

Anyone know how to map controllers to vsts without an inbuilt system for doing so. Things like the minimoog and minmonsta i have not a clue about assigning the filters to the controller and mouse lfo-ing is bait, innit.

Seems ironic having a thing with so many controls that don't correspond to anything.

ok, with a bit of research i realised im running a copy of cubase SE not SE3. apparently alot of parameters in SE don't respond to the microkontrol, or alot of external midi controllers for that matter. and not only this, but to upgrade to SE3, steinberg expects me to post back my original cd for SE, pay a small fortune and wait for them to send me a new upgrade ?? i haven't got time for all that malarky. apple do the same with logic express 7 in order to upgrade to 7.2 and these companies wonder why people used warez'd versions ??

anyway, i've decided to try it out with ableton live 4, which will kindly let me upgrade to live 5 for a small fee and download online in a matter of minutes. grrrr !

i'm aware that this microkontrol is more dedicated for use with live.. so once i've spent time on this at home i shall let you know !

btw, where you based ?

ez, yeah it works really well with ableton [ctrl m lets you assign anything to anything but im sure you've figured that already], totally agreed on the software expense thing its rubbish innit. Guess it comes down to the fact that not enough people buy the software and the companies have to cover all continual costs off development etc, be interesting to see how musch profit stienberg et al actually make. Think the heads at ableton have got it right, but then Robert Henke has been producing for years and it seems their whole aesthetic is built on helping people make interesting music rather than selling a product, although inversely they probably sell more.

Based in the ghetto of the Lake District so thats prob not much help i guess :D
