I know, im a noob...

Post by ezpz1993 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:23 pm

Okay here is it, short and blunt.
I have listened to some really really good dubstep over the last week or so and am really feeling most of the tunes by a certain artist, yet i really do not know what it is, but if i start up reason with the will to make a dubstep super tune thats it, BAM!
I don't know where to start or havent got the slightest clue where to start from and build from, after sitting there messing around for 45 minutes i just think fuck it and close it down.
any tips will help thanks alot in advance too ;)

ALSO: I am having trouble finding some high quality free samples i have a few websites with a damn load of movie samples on but the quality sucks ass!
if anyone can share a site wit me or what not that would be great!

Dubstep production bible, Google, YouTube? A nice place to start actually.

Being more specific will be more productive too :)

Right, basically i know what in my eyes sounds good, yet i can't seem to produce anything in my head as my mind just goes blank and i dont know where to start, i try playing around with some drums, i dont get a beat that im feelin, i mess around with bass, theres no influence behind it and it sounds whack. basically its all that ever happens and i am really pissed about it and want to know why, I love listning to dub tunes and i can be picky with them too so i know what i like yet i find it hard to produce it and have a buikding bloc to start from

few things

1. try to find something that inspires you, put music to that.

2. try to emulate others tracks, serious just try copying them, you'll pick a lot up that means that when you come to do your own sounds and tracks it will be easier and quicker (warning, be careful not to fall into the trap of loosing your own imagination and becoming a cover artist)

3. most of all don't force it, move around, try your hand at something else, be it another genre or something completely different like painting or walking.

4. watch less TV play less video games, it sucks you imagination and creativity dry

5. if your high/drunk, try producing sober, and vica versa.

again, i hate to be the one that says it, but read the manual. reason's manual isn't a horrid techese one.

also, check out www.computermusic.co.uk they have a lot of good tutorials on reason and other DAWs.

youtube is another great source.
Here, have a free tune:

You spent 45 Minutes with Reason and you are still not signed to Warp, Hyberdub and Planet Mu? n00b. That's plenty of time to learn all the things other producers need YEARS of PRACTICING, SWEATING and LEARNING for.

Re-read, I have messed around with reason alot, i mean up for days and weeks messing around with different sounds and creating, but that wasnt what i asked.
what i asked was something completly different, putting all that together and actually making a tune. When it comes down to actually making a tune its a complete different story for me and i do not know where to start!
