Sorry, I'm being a berk.
Just quite excited about a new Shackleton 12"
Mid September. It's 4 old (unreleased) tracks reworked as far as I can tell.

just had a listen and it's very nice.
That said, I'm not 100% sure why everyone is still getting excited about Shack's new stuff - not that it's not good, but I don't see lots of people hyped about other similar dubby chugging techno - it seems that the vague dubstep connection still causes some excitement...

tbh I don't really have an opinion on that - I like Shack's newer stuff alright, but I'm not mad about it, I preferred the frantic drum workouts of his older stuff, but that's irrelevant.
It's just interesting how history and context seem to influence people's tastes. Naturally I'm not talking about Joe for starting this thread though...

Yeh, I was overly excited when he said here that he was getting bored bored of the 140 tempo and was gonna try different things. Then I was overly dissapointed when he started doing straight 128 regular dubby techno...ThinKing wrote:tbh I don't really have an opinion on that - I like Shack's newer stuff alright, but I'm not mad about it, I preferred the frantic drum workouts of his older stuff, but that's irrelevant.

I mean, fair play to him if that's what he's feeling, but I was expecting something entirely different.
All about that Dave Elvis remix though
that's a pretty bold statement but your opinionBizmarc wrote:I think his 'techno', as was the case with his 'dubstep', blows most of his contemporaries out of the water. You CAN NOT fuck with his drums.
always nice to see shackleton shocking out at dmz/other raves. Him and appleblim are the only ones u ever see on a hype it seems.
I disagree with all the things posted here. Shackleton's new stuff is quite far separate from what else is happening in the realm of dubby techno with the exception of the Hustler remix. I think his new stuff, especially the Mary Anne Hobbs mix is a huge step up from all of his previous work. These new songs especially are a complete new realm of his own, and I think it's a bit harsh to reduce it to dubby techno. The music still has as much in common with dubstep as it does techno in many ways.ThinKing wrote:tbh I don't really have an opinion on that - I like Shack's newer stuff alright, but I'm not mad about it, I preferred the frantic drum workouts of his older stuff, but that's irrelevant.

I think people should download his mix for Mary Anne Hobbs to hear how forward thinking Shack's new stuff is:

It's just unbelievable, shivers down your spine music.
Sorry this is what I was getting at too. I wasn't very clear. What I mean is that you don't have to like dub techno to like his new stuff cos it's so good it's on it's own level.I disagree with all the things posted here. I don't get this "old stuff" "new stuff" thing... he's always been on a techno tip in his live sets... and actually the tracks on Skull010 are not techno at all, likewise his Reminiscin' remix! The only tracks where his quality dipped for me were that Crosstown Rebels release and the Simian Mobile Disco remix - those WERE too close to 'minimal' for me; otherwise everything I'm hearing is way out there.
