Anyone around Boston/Cambridge MASS. area into a dubstep weekly in a place with a great sound system?
Would you go most weeks?
Would you pay a cover for this? 3-5$?

Boston/cambridge seems a bit overdubbed at the moment although I may be putting the OPERATION UNDERGROUND party on hiatus if not simply transforming it into something that simply includes dubstep while not making it the focal point. Production is taking the front seat ( hobby only) as well as my business since its what adds more growth to my real tangible empire.

Dubwise @ Enormous room

And while it's still in operation.... OPERATION UNDERGROUND @ Good life every second Wednesday.

Boston's a pretty small city and already has three dubstep nights:

Dubwise first Sunday every month @ Enormous Room run by G-Notorious
Operation Underground every second Wed @ Goodlife run by Jam-2, and
BASSIC every last Wed @ Goodlife run by Soundbox Presents, at which I'm a resident

All three nights are usually free of charge, with a few exceptions to help cover costs.

Even as an avid supporter of dubstep, coming out three nights a month is already a lot for me. Adding a weekly to that might be asking too much of our lovely Boston dubstep community in my opinion...

I don't think I've met you yet, which is surprising- please feel free to PM me if you'd like to get more involved- it's the family vibes that make it all worthwhile, let's keep it together!

i have been looking everywhere for people that like dub in the area. i would definitely go weekly. i live on cape but i go to school in boston. and i want to try my hand at mixing...

All of those who said to not do your night either have a night they run or a night they play at... i.e. they might not be the best people to ask about whether or not YOU should have a night.

If Boston has 3 Dubstep Nights, I recommend that you attend them all, flyer at all of them and guestlist/book the talent from the other nights, as well as getting some residencies set up that don't mirror the other nights.

Boston is NOT a small city, whatever you've been told above. The scene is obviously not too damn small, if it's holding down 3 nights for Dubstep and Dubwise. If they were having trouble keeping the nights running--maybe it wouldn't be a good idea. But that being said, if you look at New York City, there are 8-10 Dub/Dubstep/Bmore/Bassline House shows per month, and sometimes each week.

1 Person here said they wouldn't be able to attend 4 Nights in a month. So what you have to do is make your night better than at least 1-2 other nights, so when it comes time for that guy to make a choice, you're the choice.

Set up your night and we'll be there, if it's poppin.

Believe it or not, we're not trying to compete by discouraging a new night. Whats important to us is that we form a community among those who love dubstep here, so everyone who has a night collaborates to keep each other involved as much as possible so that we can provide a sense of family. I don't know if you're familiar with the club scene in Boston, or if you've been to any of the dubstep nights here... if you had, you might understand what I'm trying to say. In Boston, the DUBSTEP SCENE is very small. This is because of all our crap liquor and age laws, our metro closing at 12:30, everyone liking electro so much, and the general demographic of dubstep being proportionally small. We may be holding down 3 nights, and they have good people, but we rarely get massive turnouts. NYC can handle that many dubstep nights because of the sheer number of music-lovers in that city. If you were familiar with this city, you'd know its ridiculous to compare Boston's scene with NYC's.

I'll stick to this part, because the rest I can't really argue with. Drum n Bass is still going. What I think you meant to say, is that it killed it for you. I never had any issue with having choices laid out before me and taking my pick of the nights to go to. Anyone who can't decide what night to go to, they probably aren't old enough to go to the night.

You would agree that the best representation of Dubstep is what people should hear, so that the genre and the scene can move laterally, yea?

DJ A has a night
DJ B has a night
DJ C has a night

DJ D wants to start a night

D starts his night, it is more successful than B... B fails and ends, because D's night outperformed B's.

A, C and D now have nights. D has pulled most of the crowd from B and is now the hot new night, leaving A and C to find new ways to attract the crowd's. Thus, they step up their game.

A and C now have better nights, because D was there to force them to do more, better, faster, stronger, longer, louder... better drink prices, better vibe, giveaways, etc. Everyone has heard of D, so new heads hear about D and check it out. They like the tunes they hear, and so they get involved in the scene, and by proxy start going to the other shows in/around Boston/NYC...

This isn't just some scenario... it's how myself and almost every person on this forum got here. I didn't see Dave Q getting all pissed off when every Friday at Love became a Bass Holocaust. What did they all do? They marketed the shit and threw a party, they got together and they built a larger scene of Bass Music, instead of a little sub sub sub niche of a sub sub sub genre.

Frankly, if you're throwing free shows in Boston and not that many people are attending, perhaps you should look within and not without?

I've not had the pleasure of attending a show there, so I'll just go based upon what you've said... they are free, nobody is taking the free shit, if another night opens up shop, it may endanger the other nights by taking their crowd...

If it's that fragile there, then survival of the fittest. If your night or the other nights are solid, competition won't do anything but help. And wouldn't it be remarkable if he booked someone you wanted to see/book/play with and you had to make a choice between seeing some locals are the headliner you wanted to see?

Are you promoter A, B, or C... because D would keep his or her mouth shut and let their pipeline of coming talent do all the talking for them.
