Whats the criteria for beign even nominated for a mercury award? Producing forward thinkign music? Pushing the boundries of sound in general?

Big up burial for the nomination and that, the tnuc makes decent tunes, but why has he been chosen out of all the other dubstep producers as the flagship act?

Good PR?

Much as I love the album, but not a chance he's going to win.

This is Radiohead all the way. The album was spot on genius, the fact that they released it on a "Pay what you think it's worth" basis even more so. Looking beyond the music, Radiohead have gone a long way to changing the whole music industry.

Look at the fallout. Barely a week goes past that some artist doesn't release an album completely free. McCartney, Prince, even mother fucking McFly are in on the act. All following Radiohead's lead.

It is Mercury Prize named after Freddie Mercury for Best British album of the past year. I guess that is why his album has been nominated- though media attention does help a lot in Mercury Prize nomination these days it seems. It is a very reputable award for a British artist to win and definately helps sales- all illusive mercury stickers

That is not a bad selection of albums they have this year (considering it is on the whole a mainstream award). About time the nominations took a broader look at UK music scenes and not just encompassed indie and folk as it seems to have been for last couple years or so but also electronic music.

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that an album had to be 'submitted' in order to be considered for nomination. I would like to know for sure either way...

at any rate, no other artist from the broad dubstep scene has had anywhere near the press/media coverage as Burial, and wouldn't have even a sniff of winning.

I think Burial has as good a chance as any of winning.

no doubt man, and my comments werent meant in a negative way, its a good thing he's up for nomination. However, seeing this made me wonder how Burial managed all this press coverage in the first place,apart from the fact his music is good (as good as a lot of other producers out there), I assume its the work of good PR i suppose.

just for being nominated, he's won in my eyes. radiohead may end up winning but regardless, this is a nice compliment. out to burial and 9.
