I had such a good weekend - had a booking cancelled a few weeks back for the Saturday which allowed me to spend the weekend at the festival and take in some music on the Friday and Saturday.

Friday was absolute carnage on the drinking front. Especially for my mate Dave or "Bumcrack" as some may know him. Didn't catch a lot of music but we managed to witness the last 5 or 10 minutes of Pendulum. I was expecting carnage in the tent but was surprised - I've seen it go off at Fabric for them boys a lot more than it did at Glade.

Saturday I managed to catch Distance, but missed Vex'd and Bug thru tiredness and also checking myself into the festival. Distance's set was wicked, watched the whole set - played all the tunes I was hoping for.

Saturday night was too much joke. The lads and I were all at the height of lean-ness, only to witness one of life's most extreme characters perfoming what looked like a routine from a Danny Dyer film right before our eyes.

This stocky, 5'7'' light skinned guy bowls into the side entrance of the main stage.... he literally wades his way through the crowd hollering the word "SWEETS!!??" without any real direction. Clearly he's shottin pills. He stops directly in front of the 5 of us and continues bellowing out SWEETS like a town crier almost as if he were TELLING us we wanted them..... he starts to move on but before he can get away, a shy looking white fella taps him on the arm to get his attention.... the dealer turns around "YOU WANT SOME???? WHAT DO YOU WANT?? YOU WANT IT YEAH??" - he shouts this almost as if he is after some kind of beef with the poor fella who looked like he was hoping for a discreet transaction.... "i just want 3 if you can" was the lad's reply........"LAHNDAN???? ARE YOU FROM LAHNDAN???... ERE, COME 'AATSIDE TAKE MY NUMBER"... He then proceeds to literally bounce the poor fella out of the tent to make the sale.

Needless to say, at the height of lean-ness I had to look around to see if any of my mates had just seen what I had - and yes they did. We were laughing constantly for about 10 minutes at what could possibly be the baitest pill shotter we'll ever see, and a character worthy of a place in any film by Nick Love.... Right on cue, just as we calm down and catch a breath - there he is again, bowling straight past us shouting at the top of his voice "SWEETS!!??". I'll never forget the man we now know as "Sweets".

Stayed out til the end on Sat, went back to the tent having eaten the entire contents of the crepe van and got some kip before being woken by the ridiculous heat in the tent on Sunday morning, paired with the sound of what might have been my car alarm going off (in the end it was some donut with the same alarm as me).

Caught Tayo, Caspa & Rusko on Sunday - proper vibes throughout. I stopped drinkin during their sets as it was gradually getting busier and it began to dawn on me I was goin to have to pull it out of the bag to keep such a large tent full of people entertained. Tayo mixed it up nicely with his trademark selection of dubby numbers, finishing off with some breaks which worked well as a transition for Caspa & Rusko.

Caspa and Rusko started off with a couple of dubbier bits each, but before long they leaped into action with exactly what they're known for - and had the packed tent vibesin to some serious mid range and punching subs. I was on stage setting up just behind the decks when they dropped Cockney Thug - it was then that I realised the crossover appeal of that track. After wheeling it up, Rusko dropped the sample out the second time round and the entire tent recited the words "WAKE THE FUCK UP" before letting it drop second time round. He even cut the tune on cue for the word "FUCK" to be exclaimed by his audience on every 16 bars after that!!!

I knew I had a lot to follow off the back of those sets and was a bit worried that the variation of styles may not quite grasp the audience who had clearly enjoyed Caspa and Rusko so much. But, I had a lot of fun up there. Playing Junior Spesh to that crowd was entertaining for Nomad and I - a few people had requested it beforehand so it was only right that I drop it! The Crissy Criss tunes seemed to be firm faves with the Glade audience, as well as some of the grimier bits. Chilled the set out toward the end, finishing with Japan and then Japan Vocal. Still can't believe the crowd at the end, that is a sight I'll take to the grave with me. I could see people standing outside the tent with hands in the air because there was no space for them near the back (or so it looked that way from the stage anyhow).

Thoroughly enjoyed myself, looking forward to more of the same over the rest of the summer and then all over again next year. Big up all the people who came and said hello over the course of the weekend. And special big ups to Nomad for hosting my set on stage so brilliantly (even if he did have to stay relatively calm near the decks as they were jumping early on!!).

They were on one of those airbed type things - in my experience that only makes them even wobblier to touch. All it does is deaden any vibrations from the subs - movement on stage can't be deadened by a bit of air and water!!

Just want to say thanks to all the DJ's for agreeing to play then smashing the Cool & Deadly tent on the Sunday, and thanks to any of you who were in the crowd.
We had a nice mixture of musical styles in there and was a good feeling knowing we had the busiest arena going on.
Big up to Sick Rick, Greg Dread, Mark Iration (Legend), Caspa & Rusko - who I thought played their part perfectly, and Plastician, who finished the day off perfectly. Last year Mala got an ovation at the end of his set in there, and it was great to see him getting the same.
That was our second year hosting the Sunday so should be back there next year with luck and a following wind.
Tayo.

definately the best festival i have ever been to, all the dj's i wanted to see smashed it and vex'd and bass clef took it to a next level. apart from the music being top notch the location made the whole experience better and the weather held out which from what i hear ruined it last year. definately recommend glade next year.

Really envious of you lot- looked like an awesome selection this year :(
it was a brilliant year. admittedly the sound level was inexcusable AT TIMES, a lot of the time it was also ridiculously good tho. standing right in front of one of the main stage funktion 1 stack for jeff mills was fucking immense.

friday
saw the first 20 mins or so of tomb crew, playing some dubstep at first but i missed the rest of their set - was looking forward to seeing a blend of styles as i've heard they do.
i'm checking the line up now and it doesn't seem as if i really saw any other music on the friday...that happens at glade. but i managed to miss warlock, ben pest, luke's anger, and the whole fucking bangface evening. from the reports though, the volume was much too low to be appreciated, and luckily i'd seen remarc a month or two ago. having said that i was surprised to see someone really good in the breaks tent - andrea lai was playing some absolutely sick ragga breaky garagey stuff, well done that man.

saturday
the only thing i saw before i was working 5 - 11 30 saturday night was cassetteboy and dj rubbish, absolutely ridiculous business just involving a pre recorded set and two men dressed as monkeys miming to the cut u-p samples, fellating each other and performing stripteases before giving way to some full on simian intercourse. i still caught loads of good music during work, taking 'cigarette breaks' every twenty minutes to go and shock out with a joint to vex'd, drop the lime, and the bug with daddy freddy. only bits and pieces, but the bit of vex'ds set i saw was fucking unreal, they dropped dakimh - done when i walked into the tent - great moment.
after work i wandered around near claude vonstroke but i had some sort of mission at hand so i didn't listen properly, returned to the glade stage later to be absolutely destroyed by jeff mills. destroyed.
really gutted i missed ital tek and distance, they were clashing but i saw NEITHER of them :|
sunday
finally saw lots of music.
loved elemental, he got the place moving which was well done considering his was the first set of the sunday.
i saw some of ulrich schnauss, amazing considering i've been into his stuff for years and had never imagined getting to see him live - epic, dawnbreaking music.
dj/rupture clashed with caspa and rusko, but he was absolutely amazing!
the orb was amazing for the half an hour that i witnessed, SO happy to have finally heard alex paterson live.
i was also looking forward to the return of red snapper - they were good, but not as dancey and jungley as i was hoping for (eg. the tunnel, though they may have played it later); they seem to be going for a more traditional band set up now, guitar solos and everything!
droon played some rather messy breakcore rave stuff, so pleased i got to hear his classic CRIPPLE FIGGGGHTTTTT tune in the flesh. horrible stuff. wish i'd seen iration steppas afterwards - it would have been the perfect antidote.
i have to say though - clark!!!!! absolutely incredible, from techno to gabber to breakcore to jungle. the final 40 mins of the festival that i witnessed were his, apart from running into the breaks tent afterwards to hear plastician and nomad say goodbye to the sound of japan.

yes yesss whole weekend was a heavy one.

last tune plastician played was one of his own, called japan. theres a video of him playing it on uncle sam's myspace http://www.myspace.com/demtingdeh

highlights for me dubstepwise... daddy freddy and flowdan killin it on stage with the bug! that won't be forgotten for a long while. Distance's set had me in spaz mode. and obviously Plasticians set, especially dropping Roadrage AND Modem consecutively made me want break down into tears. lovely stuff. :D
I was there for caspa and rusko as well but seriously... *yawn*

annoyingly i missed most of vex'd but what i caught was awesome.

I have a slight recollection of seeing you during Jeff Mills mate - i was a gonner...i have been told i was practically pole dancing but have no recollection.

Your set was tight Ad!

Had a hilarious time sat behind the overkill merch stall early sunday afternoon with the man uberdog,

I actually managed to sell some tees. Dunno how as i was rambling like a tramp at that point...

Good times

Did anyone catch Daedelus (SP?) on the Overkill? I thought he was amazing! I was totally entranced!

Highlights for me were Distance, Dj Godfather, Octopussy and Plastician on Mushrooms, pure good vibes all round! Its a far cry from last year! Roll on 2009
