its simple.
If its shit, dont buy it.
If its good, make sure you support said label/artist as much as possible so they can keep making said music.
But people will always buy the sun(newspaper) and the sun has power over people... If you know what i mean...
i actually have the complete opposite view to you, usually the ex -dnb producerrs (or ex anything for that matter) tend to bring a lot more professionalism and exploration to the sound.
case in point is producers like reso and marlow, who both have backgrounds in DnB, and their tracks sound so much better, in terms of the quality of the original sounds they are using, to drum patterns and the general mixdown
I say get off your high horse sir!

To be honest I havent been that gripped by any records coming out of late in this scene I remember a time when I would buy nearly every record released that week but now sometimes I dont buy any, so if people want to input fresh ideas and it sounds good im all for it.kidkut wrote:People get too caught up on whats dubstep and who's making it.

I would suggest focus on the music you enjoy and stop worrying who's making what.
What you consider to be 'absolute bollocks' maybe someone else's favourite tune.
The more music available the better.. the scene will evolve.. pioneers in the scene will still be pioneers.. new producers will bring new sounds and ideas...

yes you can... the point is that theres a difference between being inspired by a sound and making a tune, and just doing it because it might be a lucrative move for you...mrbeatnick wrote:i think you can be proud of a style when it's influencing the style of others.. it works the other way too. "Dubstep" sounds are turning up in tunes in other genres.. Infectious ideas.

I ask...it can still be sincere
Whether you're a bedroom producer or fucking Goldie, if you're not doing something original then you're not adding much to the scene.

I hear you. At the end of the day, those tunes that are just trying to make lucrative moves rarely catch on!Jonnyrebel wrote:yes you can... the point is that theres a difference between being inspired by a sound and making a tune, and just doing it because it might be a lucrative move for you...mrbeatnick wrote:i think you can be proud of a style when it's influencing the style of others.. it works the other way too. Yes, this cannot be ignored. Seems like people chatting shit about the death of vinyl has been put on hold of lateskream wrote:Hugh wrote:im sure noone in dubstep makes much money to be honest. this is true, i for one only started collecting vinyl so i could spin dubstep. But compared the kind of money you get from promotion and playing at nights has got to rake in so much more surely?skream wrote:Hugh wrote:im sure noone in dubstep makes much money to be honest. johnnyrebel - ah yes, the cynical, money grabbing side of things extends all the way down from the big corporate labels to the small guys. it's a shame, but the nice ideal that everyone involved in underground dance music is doing it for the love of it is just not the case - as you quickly start to find out when you get involved at a bit of a deeper level. there are plenty of good guys, but there are also plenty of sharks - like your DnB chum here. but that's not half as bad as some of the stories i've heard. in the end you've just got to shrug your shoulders and hope the good will out...

Depends on the genre. sales are def. fucked in some other scenes. doing 500 in any scene would be impressive these days (compared to say, 3000 for a big tune a few years back). hip hop 12"s, for example, pretty much deadweight these days.Jonnyrebel wrote:Yes, this cannot be ignored. Dubstep has definitely kept the pressing plants open, full respect to that.
