This conspiracy would have gone back to 1400s in that case when America wasn't even established as a country, let alone a world power.

I don't denounce conspiracy theories (and I hold a similar attitude to you gwa) but in this case freedom of speech really has got to some people's heads. What would the motives be for creating an elaborate lie? So that money put into the space programme would be saved? Why set up a space programme at all in that case? It's not only NASA that are an authority on space exploration anyway...

Totally and utterly ridiculous and anyone who agrees is just absorbed in their own self-knowledge and oneupmanship (like many conspiracy theorists I might add). Bollocks.

that's a really interesting read. i already knew about flat earthers from doing a level religious studies and was under the impression that the argument for it was purely bibical due to a quote in the bible that refers to "the four corners of the earth" meaning that it must be flat; but that article seems to suggest otherwise. it made far more sense that flat earth theory was based on christian fundamentalists blindly accepting a mis-quoted passage from the bible than it being a secular theory. it's just mind boggling to think that people can still believe it
