this isn't proof that rosegarden in helsinki is almost spherical (it isn't), but just that someone's used a really wide-angle lens.
put it this way, you're trying to project a panorama on to something flat. if you want a 4:3 image at the end of it, distortion ensues.
Isn't that just a fish eye lens? Pretty sure if youre using a standard (possibly not wide angled) lens you're going to get an accurate representation.
Oh, and the ruler thing really does work! Anyone who lives near the sea/in Holland give it a go!

actually, it is, but even if it wasn't, that wouldn't prove anything.

surely all you need to show the curvature of the earth is a really tall object and a wide flat open space
if you walk far enough away from it the bottom will start disappearing

Which is why when you are on a boat you cant actually see the sea shore when you are a few miles out.
Like france for example?

yeah, it is an extremely wide (though not fisheye: fisheye is ironically more honest) lens. there isn't some magic cutoff at which point distortion occurs, though: you'll see it gradually reducing as you get less and less wide. for instance, 16mm is an extremely wide lens, and will give you some pretty insane results. most dslrs at least ship with the widest being 28.8mm, which, while not being insane, will still show up some distortion like that.
it depends what you're taking photos of, both foreground and background, the positioning of these relative to each other and especially to you, etc.

No, really she is inverted cripple but because the curve of the earth and the sun in the sky and quantum entanglement she appears to actually be standing straight.

i never said it wasn't. i believe that it's round, but if you want to prove it, do it properly.
(yes, the picture in rosegarden was a fisheye. yes, the picture of the sea is also a reasonably wide angle lens. both produce distortion, to different degrees. re-read what i said before, particularly the last post on the last page.)

Here is something that might blow your mind. Psalms 103 verse 12 "As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us."
That would suggest that the world IS round because the first part is illustrating that there is an infinite amount of space between the east and west since if you keep going east you will just keep going east and never reach the west. It wouldn't make sense any other way. If you said as far as the north is from the south it wouldn't work either as if you keep going north eventually you will be going south.
ermmm, with the danger of getting onto religion again, that doesn't seem that mind blowing a statement...and I might be mis-interpreting but personally something saying "as far as the East is from the West" to me would suggest that it isnt implying a globe but a flat surface, otherwise East eventually becomes West and it all depends on where your perspective is from? - a flat surface would be the one having a centre and furthest East being as far away as possible from furthest West?
This isn't talking about the eastern and western hemispheres. If you travel east you will never reach the west you will just keep going east. Unless the world IS flat
