i think it's the mystery and pain in his tracks that made my interest in his unveiling so sensitive. it doesn't matter at all who he is, but i think there's something about seeing the face of an artist who makes something so ...personal? sorry for sounding cliche, but deep?. or, mind blowing... i feel as though your appearance, and outside, your posture, and demeanor, your tone, your cadence, all of this... communicates some kind of past. some kind of life or mystery. there is something about looking a person in the face when you first meet them. its somethign that only happens the first couple times you meet a person, you see into their brain and you either relate or do not understand. i always feel like, the kind of people i want to meet look like Raver sounds, or how etched headplate sounds, or the empty space of in mcdonalds.. etc. i feel like whatever BURIAL looks like is irrelevant, i am just happy hes not an alien and that he is alive and breathing and well. and i dont know about you but UNTRUE has forever changed my life. i'm glad to know just because i applaud him.
you dont wana see me get eeeevil...

i think this sums up EVERYONES feelings to be honest.
a sad day cos the silly mentality of the tabloids won wen they backed him into a corner till he had no other option.
its annoying cos not many ppl actively enforce that kind of "its just about the music" attitude, to much focus on this bait celeb culture and everyone wating to be a celeb and treating celebs like gods...
so to see sumone going against the grain in a positive way, be squashed by the stnuc who promote this silly celeb culture in society today, its very sad to see.

I agree with every word of that, The Sun has ruined a lot of hard work, to stay more or less unknown for 2 6 figure selling albums, a load of singles and a LOT of hype is no mean feat but I worry this revelation will change the sounds in some way, or add a picture to the white label I didn't need. Hopefully this will all be forgotten soon and we can get our eyes back down and flash up out lighta's...

Not so well done to Rhys Sutheran, Stacey McDonald, Thomas Docking and some moron hiding behind the email address info [hat] plexlondon.com.
If it was that obvious, why are so many people still convinced this is actually an elaborate hoax based on a Herefordshire undertaker?
Or that the real identity of Burial is Luke Warren, aka DubLuke, also from South London?
I hadn’t heard of Burial before his nomination. I’ve now listened to him and love his stuff.
Isn’t that the point of music?
Not according to all the dubstep fans who have emailed crying about their music being stolen from them.

I'd like to begin by saying,, I have great respect for this mans music. The following is just opinion, and some unfinished thoughts,, its no bash at Burial and I am in no way claiming the following to be what I feel is fact.....with that said.
It can and will be all about the tunes and still not have to hide his entire identity from the world...? That's actually just ridiculious. Though I guess it makes for a fairly interesting social project at best....
Im not sure about this burial, though I am a great appreciator of his music, ideas, unique style of music production,(along with the standard techniques used on his vocals) the man may it be pure talent or a perfected skill has really delivered timeless music that touches people musically and emotionally. (for that much respect) But in too many interviews he contradicts himself in his answers from question to question, and each interveiw varies in portrayal of what his character may be like even sometimes to the extreme that it seems two diffrent people were interviewed (i hope i explained that properly). Also, the man needs to realize he is a recording artist, therefore he is a icon within the media, it's ignorant and very unprofessional(imo) for him to attempt to remove his identity from the "burial" moniker.
Of course knowing who he is doesnt change peoples feeling for his music.
I don't know man I dont get why people are acting as if this is some tragedy and leaving comments all over the internet with this "heads-up buddy" vibe too it,,,, as if he should feel discouraged by people being informed on who he is. Drop the ego? Drop the act? Drop more tracks? just do something that isnt this petty media grab for attention...
His statment doesnt really address what his mood is on introducing his identity to the public. Really i just dont see where some of your reactions stem from.

I would tend to agree. If he hadn't been nominated for the Mercury I think it would have been easy enough for him to continue working more-or-less anonymously. However once you put yourself forward (and remember, to be eligible for the Mercury your label or management has to apply on your behalf) for one of the biggest music prizes in the country, your identity - like it or not - becomes 'public interest'. Yeah, The Sun went about uncovering it in a fairly obnoxious and cack-handed way but then that's The Sun for you.freqone wrote:He's a recording artist,, he put himself into the public eye. It'd be foolish of him to think he was going to be able to keep his ID underwraps.ThinKing wrote:shame about the witch-hunt. It's sad that someone who just wants to be left alone to write music isn't allowed a little privacy/anonymity.

this: especially the point about the label having to apply!!!BETAMAXNOMATES wrote:

kode9 has always had a reputation for being a very intelligent & well educated man. Assuming this is true, are we not underestimating hyperdub here? is it not quite possible they walked into this with there eyes pretty wide open. the sun stuff in fairly extreme, but they must have considered the dangers of massively raisin the profile of someone who wanted to stay out of the spotlight.
I dont mean any of the above in a should have seen this coming context. more as a, i trust kode9 & am sure hes looking after his man

having had the pleasure of speakin to mr9 on couple of ocassions i would agree he's a smart chap. i think they were well aware of things playin out like this. An if burial wins(which he deserves for his music alone) i think they'll have played this brilliantly!weston wrote: kode9 has always had a reputation for being a very intelligent & well educated man. Obviously the sun witch hunt wasnt nice, but it was envitable burial would reveal himself eventually. i'm sure he is just about the music, but the mystery & intrigue has intentionally or not has given soo much press & hype for him an hopefully sales for hyperdub too! While there are downsides to this, if it allows burial more freedom to make music an Hyperdub to release more then good good i say

Kode 9 is the Alex Ferguson of dubstep i reckon. Hes played a blinder.
What other dubstep or even underground musican has found himself in the gossip pages of the Sun 4 days in a row without snorting coke of Jordans baps? Its the most read paper in country and this will easily translate to more recognitin for Burial's work.... which as most people on here seem to agree is no more than the man deserves.
And what a way to stay in the minds of the prize judges as well.
Of course the Sun is a horrible waste of space but it says more about the people of this country than anything else.... if they didn't want to read it, they wouldn''t print it.... at least its not the daily mail though eh!
