thankfully it was my parents that gave me my name and not the government otherwise I could've ended up as a series of numbers and letters :P

Isn’t that the point of music?

Not according to all the dubstep fans who have emailed crying about their music being stolen from them.
The man has a point.
its an arrogant imposition of the common-sense, as if everyone views the world the way he does. who would begrudge him the enjoyment of the music? but trying to impose some impossibly simple-minded idea of 'the point of music'... come on
I know what you mean, and I realise it doesn't sit well coming from a Sun journalist.

Indeed he does, I'd like to distance myself from the sentiments expressed in the above email aswell, it's all just a bit too 'precious'.

Also, the point that he's making there is a straw man - aiui, not many people were complaining that they're talking about the music so much as that they're aggressively (up to and including offering money to people who've met him to reveal his identity, apparently) trying to 'unveil' an artist who's previously stated that he's keeping his identity a secret because he doesn't want the publicity.

The positive side, I suppose, is that (unless he's the lovechild of Lord Lucan by a Hungarian trapeze artist who was descended from an exiled Russian prince or something) about the only interesting thing about his identity was the fact that it was a secret, so they'll probably lose interest now.

Yes, which is exactly what he wants, so that no-one suspects him when he steps up onto the stage at the Mercury prize, rips of his mask and reveals that he is:

This is what the person who he calls a "moron" in the latest article wrote:
If you actually bothered to check his myspace out, the guy you have deemed appropriate to 'sound out' has in fact revealed his true identity.

Why this was such a big deal to the donuts who write for your rag I have no idea, I can only assume that due to his nomination for the Mercury Music Prize this has roused media interest.

What makes me laugh is that this guy has been around for quite a few years now, yet you late-starters have only just cottoned on to the fact he makes incredible music.

Aphex Twin? Fatboy Slim? Bay City Rollers?

A truly spectacular fail on your part here I think and one that only shows you up of being utterly clueless about real music. Must try harder Mr Smart.

May I politely suggest that you continue to support the current crop of crap you write about daily and not try and interfere with music scenes/trends that you possess very little or no knowledge about. It only shows you up as being ignorant and ultimately ill-informed.

Oh, and the fact that you couldn't even work out that 'Kode' refers to Kode-9, who runs a label called Hyperdub which Burial releases on only exemplifies my point wouldn't you agree? Try www.google.com next time you are unsure of anything, its a very helpful search engine on the internet.

To finish off, may I congratulate you on sticking your oar in when not wanted and causing a great deal of hassle to a very humble and hard working musician. Well done.

Clueless idiots like Gordon Smart (delicious, the irony is delicious) should stick to what they know best, Coldplay: Keane and Amy's latest meltdown.
Hello, this is the Plex moron here..

Mail no.2 to Uncle Rupert's media bitches..thought it may be of interest.

You have created the most epic amount of laughs this morning for all my friends and I. Thanks a lot!

A few things Smart..

Firstly, yet another blatant failure on yours and your team's part is clearly reading email headers correctly it seems. I mailed you from Plexlondon dot net, not .com as you incorrectly stated in your paper.
Even though I own both domains anyway, I still found it highly amusing that you could make such glaringly obvious error.

Secondly, perhaps your researchers missed this first time around although judging from the high-brow discussion board you host online, I very much doubt they would've read it.

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 80693.html

Just in-case you can't be bothered to read something longer than a 2 inch column, It's an article that clearly states who Burial is, where he lives geographically in the world and his musical history up until now.
Its dated February 11th 2008, a whole 6 months before you're embarrassing campaign of revelation began, who'd have thought it eh?

I find this bit incredibly sweet..

"If it was that obvious, why are so many people still convinced this is actually an elaborate hoax based on a Herefordshire undertaker?

Or that the real identity of Burial is Luke Warren, aka DubLuke, also from South London?

I hadn't heard of Burial before his nomination. I've now listened to him and love his stuff.

Isn't that the point of music?"

Bless, its like my little brother trying to justify why he still likes Pokemon at the age of 12. Of course you can enjoy and get into his music, that goes without saying but unfortunately for you, you have gone about it in a very wrong and very public manner.
It's a shame as you seem to have missed the entire point of why this kid makes music and what it actually means to him. I guess that isn't your fault completely, ignorance generally blinds people to the real truth.

the point presumably being that people should be writing articles about burial's music, for better or worse, instead of pointless gossip about his name? especially when he's just not said anything about it. if you read the rest of the column, it's all about celebrities' nipples slipping out. nothing to do with music, films, or whatever. but what do you expect from an idiot rag like them? the sun taking the moral high ground is pretty astounding.

big up dubluke tho, big look. gotta get this happening more often, possible future page 3 material.

:t: Thought I would sign up and say Hi, seems we are all as entertained by it as each other. I am Jung from NSB, me and the lovely Gordon exchanged a few loving emails last night, which resulted in him being so happy he had to mention me in today's Sun. I must say the bloke is a grade A dick end. Am trying to think of a way to get him back 8)
