It's not like you can just listen to a dubstep track, then sit down and write one yourself.

And anyhow, relying too heavily on these 'reference' tunes will just result in a samey and unoriginal production

didnt mean to rattle any cages, i am gonna order some dubstep online very soon, i dont belive a reference tune would result in it sounded to much the same unless you tryd to copy it, i just wanna hear the correct sound like wit any style of music...reference tunes are a great way to tune your ears up before u start a trk

as you've found out mate, pirating tunes is not looked upon kindly within the dubstep scene.

suggest you download a studio mix off www.barefiles.com or listen to some clips on an online shop - every clip on www.juno.co.uk is 3 mins long, for example.

if you were asking if any producers out there were up for swapping tunes, you should say so.

myspace is a good place to go for reference tracks.its not great quality but its good enough to get your ear in methinks.

for e.g. start at www.myspace.com/loefah and listen to the mighty punisher rmx. Then just hop to a few different myspaces like Kode 9s, Burial's etc from their friend links. You can hear loads of tracks in reasonable quality this way.
