yea it wasnt about his identity being exposed man it was more the way they went about it. Proper witch hunt. The thing about smart offering the guy from the gaurdian money was fucking appallingRob Sparx wrote:Don't think there's anything bad about his identity being exposed its the best free publicity he could have hoped for - at least now he can start DJing and make some serious cash!

Its the fact that Burial was forced into revealing his identity by The Sun saying it was Fatboy Slim and stuff like that.

No I get "the point" it was well out of order the way they exposed him - I especially hate bellends who spread bullshit about peoples identities as its happened to me before as well (apparently I'm actually just an alias of Twisted Individual!) BUT no-ones actually said anything bad about the guy and the fact that there's all this fuss about him is a bloody good peice of publicity so I don't think its such a bad thing that it has happened even if the circumstances were a bit dodgy - some journalists are scum but there's no such thing as bad publicity (unless your Michael Jackson).
Lots of people who've never heard dubstep might now go out listen to Burial and like his music - they probably wouldnt have without the sun/papers kicking up all this fuss so its not such a bad thing plus the guy can now go out and DJ now (everyone's gonna want 2 book him) which as we all know makes a lot more money than writing tunes in your bedroom!
If anyones about to say "its not about the money" you can fuck off and hug a tree!

What if he doesn't want to play out?
You have missed the point sunshine, completely i am afraid.
Erm.. I'm pretty sure if Mr Bevan wanted to "go out and DJ" and make "a lot more money than writing tunes in his bedroom" he could have a long time ago, maybe by revealing his identity in his own way/time.Rob Sparx wrote: Lots of people who've never heard dubstep might now go out listen to Burial and like his music - they probably wouldnt have without the sun/papers kicking up all this fuss so its not such a bad thing plus the guy can now go out and DJ now (everyone's gonna want 2 book him) which as we all know makes a lot more money than writing tunes in your bedroom!

At the end of the day everyones got to make a living. I do it cos I love it but i still wouldnt mind seeing a little return for my hard work know what I mean.
Each to his own but if you know Rob and youve heard his tunes I think they pretty much speak for themselves otherwise he'd be making some gay R n B shit, which im pretty sure hed Kill lol
I do think youve somewhat missed the point a about burial though rob...
Yea but the fact that the mainstream papers have done it for him means there's a lot more people knowing about it if it was just the underground press. IF the geezer doesn't want to play out then I think he's missing a good opportunity thats just my opinion - lets wait and see if he actually does start playing out I rekon he will even if not for a while so he can finish his next album.
Its a shame that Burial was placed in a position to reveal his identity because of the pressure from the media. Clearly the editors/publishers have not done there homework to understand the impact on Burials pressence at remaining an anonymous figure with a mysterious sound, and wanting to remain that way.
Not only is this an invasion of one's privacy, but its also an impact on who Burial was and what made Burial to be where he is today.
Now everyone will know his face, when he appears to check out a gig or what not. My only concern is that people will begin to approach him now that they know who he is and it may be a little bit overwhelming to the point he can lose concentration on things and just give up on everything he stood for in his music.
Burial.. Keep doing what your doing. Don't let anyone stop you.

I don't think the endless discussion on here and other places about his identity has helped either. Its always seemed to be a focal point. Not blaming anyone but since his first album people have regulary talked about either..
A: Themselves being Burial (this made me really paranoid, he could have been anyone!!)
B: Wondering who he was
C: Just talking about the fact that he didn't want to reveal who he was.
Was only a matter of time before this happened imo.

I don't think he was forced, I think he played it out really well. he seems like a good thinker from interviews I've read, and of course his music is really deep and fairly unconventional in most aspects.
So just revealing it like it's no big deal when it became a big deal is such a slick move.
kind of like Fidel Castro, when the US announced that any cubans that wanted to leave Cuba would have assylum in the USA, he opened his prisons and mental wards and put them on boats to miami
OK, not quite as slick as that, but very well played!
Props Burial, thanks for the tunes!
