You can get oatcakes in staffordshire, but outside of stoke itself, and at the supermarkets they are always big thick rubbery ones made in a factory. Usually called Staffordshire Oatcakes or Poveys Oatcakes, they're crap.

Stoke used to be home to some quality nights and clubs. All I ever hear down the pub off the old men is this and that about Shelley's, Entropy and Kinetic.

Such a shame

yeah, in contrast to the industrial grind of most people's lives back home there used to be some real life to the club scene, even from the northern soul era.

the Shelley's reunion nights in 2001/2002 were my first real raves. fucking incredible vibe. Nebula2 live 2002 oh my days.

yo still to get all the details ourselves but we've basically been asked to host a tent at the love music hate racism festival thing -

i'll up them as soon as we know but it'll be a mix of grime/dubstep/garage/hip hop in the day and free i am assuming

p.s we're a night from london - go check www.myspace.com/dirtycanvas

FINA fucking LY.
First of year at uni was dire i must tell thee. (at staffordshire)
Im from birmingham so the dubstep scene aint too bad there, with custard factory etc.
I was VERY dissapointed to see the lack of dnb/dubstep/junglist etc nights or venues on offer.
AKA none, i think pendulum played keele but i cudent get down there, any dose of life to the so called city would be amazing. Not even the student night on a wednesday plays any dnb/dubstep w,e. Its all indie shit, fockin does my head in.
Any nights comin up from september 08 to june 09 somone please let me know.

mate how did rush go? I saw one of your posters in castle last thursday, but already had plans for friday! Hopefully it will be come an annual thing so i can actually get my ass down to it one night!

I agree all nightlife in stoke is dire at best, and ive been wanting/willing to do something about it for a long time! Theres no variety outside of crappy indie and pubs. Theres some good venues that could house a good dub night, like the mill, fusion, or just some small affair like the glebe. I know some of the owners of these bars and all seem fairly open to suggestion.

As for stokes past, it did used to be fairly vibrant what with shellys, the void, satchmos, RIP!!

Oh yeah, im from the toilet that is Stoke, so i feel for all your pains! Fuck club nights just bowl round mine, strap a zoot and just blast out some dub and have some living room skankin!!

Im movin up to staffs for uni in september and i wish i'd scoped the town out a bit more tbh.

Some of us are gonna have to start a regular dubstep/dnb night up.

address? West side mutha! Nah im out in Castle.

But im serious about gettin a night on, or at least meetin up for a bevvy to disscuss the possibilities, as its been said stoke is in dire need of some decent dub/dnb loving!

My friends record lable (i wont go into shameless advertising) has a dubstep artist on it, and they're doin lable nights as i type. Im sure if i put my fingers in a few pies i could get contacts from them for room hire, along side the folk i know at the mill, glebe, or even run a room at one of their advents i dunno. All i do know is that:

A) ive wanted to get into promo and event oganising for time
B) Stoke neeeds a red bull, or two, when it comes to giving its nightlife a kick up the ass

Alas, i know its probably a pipe dream, but its worth a shot, and afterall we're all allowed them!!

Sorry to give this topic a major bump, but does anyone actually know if chefs playin up in stoke tomorrow? Ive been searchin the web for the last 20 mins and not found anythin on the love music hate racism site, the only mention of it is on dirty canvas myspace but even so it doesnt have a location. Anyone else have any idea?

http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=46805360

Oh also, to anyone who cares, ive found out the mill has a hiphop night on during the week, and only operates the main room and the roof. I certainly see potential for that second shitty room to be blastin out some stinky dub!!! Gonna speak with my friend who works there next week.

Cheers in advance for anyone with info on this chef gig!
