FWD Report 21st July
Aaaaaaaaah big night!
Quiet to start off with, but N-Type still playing some ridiculous dubs to just 6 people is pretty heavy. Gradually filled up though. Have to say N-Type's mixing was just about perfect - seamless blends from tune to tune.
Then Plastician played dropping a few well known dubstep bits, and a fair bit of grimier stuff. wasn't feelingt this set as much as the others, but still, was pretty impressive to see what you can do with final scratch.
and finally youngsta and hatcha B2B. Despite a sudden pop and then the sound cutting out, the set was still killer. so happy disco wrecka got dropped. again, tight mixing.
first one i'd been to on a friday - liking the extended opening hours, and also good to see a slightly different crowd to normal, which is probably down to the shift.

Heavy night indeed, it was my first night at FWD, and I loved every minute of it! We drove up from Portsmouth (2 hrs away) and it was well worth it.
Definitely feeling N-Type and Youngsta b2b Hatcha more than Plastician's more Grime based set, but he still dropped some sick, sick tunes.
I took a little video on my digital camera, check it out:

my god that was sick. that was the first time i've heard dubstep on a proper sound system and it was just....ridiculous. quality tunes, quality place, quality people. had such a good time just cotching next to the speaker at the back watching people swaying like corn in the wind, such a different vibe to what i'm used to at dnb nights. i've never been so happy in a club before, i was grinning from ear to ear all night. i brought a few mates who i think were a bit dubious about it - they're now well and truly converted.
anyway enough guffery, that was sick, safe to all involved. by the way, what the fuck was that I Like To Move It tune that plasticman played?

That bass in that skepta tune, the 'stupid in the face' one is ridiculous. Wasn't too fussed about seeing much of plasticman's set but i was pleasantly surprised, mixing was on point.ramadanman wrote:mos dan wrote:what grime was plastic playing?
Not really that good on my grime, but stuff like cha, murkle man, some skepta track, amongst others.
Shame about the system fucking up, did the same thing happen with Benga last week? Yunx was fuming last night bless him.

certainly is. and it is great. i'm going to weigh in in praise of P man's set -proepr quality grime - a part of fwd which gets overlocked. brings a totally differnt type of energy than straight up dubstep. love it.Jubscarz wrote:Intensive Snare I think this is called. That bass in that skepta tune, the 'stupid in the face' one is ridiculous
was another really good night - friday's are now starting to get into their own rhythm - going to be hard not to miss one sooner or later but hell it's good.

I like Plastician sets too.. his mixing is impeccable and his tune selection is really broad. I like how in dubstep every DJ has their own style, but when you go see someone like youngsta, n-type, skream, mystikz etc you can more or less predict their sets, apart from totally fresh bits.
I guess if I was as heavily into grime as I am dubstep I might be able to do that with plastic sets, but at the moment they interest me
Next friday will be the first friday I've been able to reach! Loefah, Youngsta, El-B
