Fat Drums?
I want to fatten up my drums and i want to try and keep away from reverb. I've allready made the bass drums a little higher in the eq range and taken down the bass a few frequencies. does anyone have any other tips?
im using reason 4
much love

Don't know much about Reason since I only use it for making the odd bassline or something (redrum makes me angry)
But maybe use a maximizer? Layering? Compression? Subtle reverb can go a long way, like in a few of my tunes ive used quite tight reverb to fatten up drums and said to people, and they're like "didn't even know there was reverb in there" yet, without it wouldn't sound as fat.
Personally I find layering is key to really nice snares and kicks.
For hats, high passing is my preference.
I'm sure someone can give you tips of some actual use though

Have you read this thread on drums? ---> http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=54827
turn everything else down. i know i know, kinda lame advice but honestly i think people forget about this in todays super loud mixing, soemtimes just having your drumz actually be in the front of the mix will fatten them up loads.
id do that before grabbing a compressor for sure. definitly before sidechaining anything. let compresion gently gel shit together not "fatten" or louden things.
verb definitly wont 'fatten" anything.

Step 1. High pass kicks at 80 Htz. (Kicks high passed at 80 Htz may get picked up by the sub so set to 100Htz if this is not desirable).
Step 2. Add short reverb (0.5 - 1 second)
Step 3. EQ kicks:
Add band pass at 100Htz set to 12 Db gain by 0.3 (oct) Bandwidth.
Add high shelf pass at 500Htz set to -Inf gain by 24 Db roll off.
Step 4. Compress kicks heavily.
Step 5. Double layer the same kicks to add more depth.
Extra Tip. To add extreme fatness just chuck a limiter over your kicks!
